Shortly will need to get a new set of tyres for the V6 wedge. I upgraded from 14" to 15" wheels some time ago and used correspondingly lower tyres (205/55 VR15). The ride has been noticably harsher ever since and as I use the car mostly within the confines of london that ain't good! Don't do a huge mileage and don't do track days so can anyone recommend a tyre that gives me a nice comfortable, quiet ride (would probably help if the car didn't rattle so much). And what pressures should I use? Always have stuck to 24psi all round.
The use of lower profile tyres (instead of the standard ones) will always result in a harsher ride.
For cars that have very low profile tyres fitted as original equipment, the suspension will have been optimised for their use. If you change from standard profile to lower profile you will experience increased grip - but at the expense of harshness.

Fronts should be 22, whatever the size/profile.
Trouble is, if you've no PAS, steering is a bit heavier.
Why not take a couple of pounds out of the rears ?
Up to August I had a 280i with totally rebuilt supension that was very hard and bumpy on 205/60 x 14s, yet my 390 (on 225/50 x 15s) has a lovely comfy but firm ride.
I think the answer may lie in the suspension adjustment.
Trouble is, if you've no PAS, steering is a bit heavier.

Also VR tyres are MUCH harsher generally than H rated tyres. You don't really need V rated tyres on a 280, mine would not go anywhere near 150 mph!
I once had a set of VR tyres (205-50-15 on an A**A ) that got a puncture. I couldn't tell by looking at them I only found out by the burning smell as you went round corners.

I ran the AVS on my old 350 for years. Very good grip, wet or dry, relatively soft. Not sure if they're still available in the right size for a 350 though.

For both you chaps I'd thoroughly reccommend Uniroyal 540 rallyes, I've been running 'em on my 350 for the last 20K mile sthey grip reasonably well in the dry and are very good in the wet, saved my bacon a couple of times!
They are also quite a soft sidewall which is why I'm running 26 / 28 Psi but if you're after comfort ....
Also they're around 70 quid each for the 205/60 R15 130Mph rated

Adjustable shocks, is part of the proper way together with a proper suspension setup, and correct tyre pressures. And then trail and error to find your preferred setting. And annoying if it is the wrong setting during daily use of course. I can even be annoyed on every drive if something is not to my liking, but have currently the roadholding, damping and braking as I like it (acceleration is currently missing from the list.....). But it took some trail and error, and still want to improve on it!
