Mines faster than yours....!
Discussion
I don't normally get involved in these sort of discussions, but..
My neighbour has recently acquired an '89 Porsche 944 non turbo. You can guess the rest...
My Porsche is faster...better power to weight for a start..also better build quality than Blackpool buckets etc..ok, might have a point there
Like i said, i don't normally bother with "my K
B's bigger than yours"..but he's bugging me now. If it was a Turbo...maybe, but is he on something??
Edited to say..i have a healthy 400SE

Forget his, drive yours.
Not knocking the 944.
Me neither.......
BUT he's always out there when i go to my garage!! (we share the drive) The voices in my head are getting louder..(ignore him..i can't..Ignore him..I CAN'T Aaarrrggghhh...
Mind you, i can't hear him when i start up the 400SE

He's daydreaming.
For a start, his car is 200kgs heavier than yours, and in non-turbo form has around 60bhp less power.
Even if it was a turbo it would still have less power.
Carfolio give 0-60 for 400SE as 5 secs, whereas they give 6 secs for the Porsche non-turbo, and 5 secs+ for the turbo.
You can hold your head up mate....and of course... what can match the SOUND of a Wedge ?

You're faster in a straight line, but the 944 is sublime around the corners, very balanced and very controllable. The 944 will be the better long distance cruiser, at 120mph (200km/h) the wind noise all but disappears from the car, must have been designed that way.
I've owned several TVRs (no wedges though) and a 944 so have a bit of experience here

To all the piss takers, go drive one, then dream on about you can make your wedge handle like that!!!

I would like to remind you that this is the Wedge forum where gratuitious piss taking is allowed, indeed essential.
Should you wish to take some excercise, please frequent other TVR forums where you can fly off the handle, jump to conclusions, run up eachothers backs and push your luck.

Iain
No hard feelings, the 944 is an excellent car as are the Wedges that I've driven. Anyway we shouldn't through stones if we can't take it
So how about, Renault or Ford backlights, Cortina Steering Rack, and the killer Capri Door Handles
I'm afraid I've been around TVRs long enough to know their assets and generally handling isn't one of them, but the killer blow is that they are an event to drive
rather than bland

PS anyone seen a 1000bhp Cerbera

Amazing that a 944 should be thought of when making comparisons to a wedge. The 911 is the only one to compare it with and the pre 1990 ones were dangerous in the handling department ,and they are all too much money for what you get and lousy sound too. I like them very much but.. expensive to buy, own, poker bits are pricey , they aren't cheap on the 944 either.Wedges are very exiting to drive indeed, cheap to buy , relatively cheap to maintain- which car sounds like one , nothing !Ok I'm biased !

HUH ?
I am NOT a silver car person.
I do NOT shop at Ikea.
I do NOT holiday in Phuket.
I do NOT need another car with safe, predictable,BORING handling (like my diesel Rover).
I do NOT even notice most types of Porsche, though I've driven a fair few.
I AM a NOISY showoff ... nothing to do with going round corners.
