Following on from my 'hypothetical' question a while back, to keep the ford theme, will the 2.5l or 3l Ford Duratec engine (in Noble spec of course) physically fit in between the chassis rails of a Series 1 FHC? It certaily looks less bulky than the Cologne lump from that photo.

Iain, I like your thinking.

A nice modern Ford V6.

Now you just need a tape measure.

Try Simpsons breakers (near York) for prices.
They are massive for late stuff, and have a website.

Well its this thread that got me thinking www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=213239&f=66&h=0

"All power outputs quoted are when the engine is installed in a Noble and built as per our spec.

2.5 litre - 360bhp/330ftlbs
3 litre "FP3" - 385bhp/360ftlbs
3 litre "F400" - 400bhp/380ftlbs
3 litre "FX500" - 530bhp/490ftlbs"

Thats one hell of a motor to be over 175bhp/litre and 25k between refreshes! The price is a bit scary though! I think I'd start with something a little more sedate!

Walden you're a BD, if you want a new engine in that thing you can have the one I'm taking out of my Tasmin, or the XR4i jump i have to crack my shins on when I'm feeling bored in the garage.

Well, yes, but it shows they have potential to be fettled and stay reliable. Start with a 3l block, get that running sweet, and then forced induction as and when.

This project is still on the horizon, I've a pair of racers and a pair of SD1s to sort first!

Will a Ford 4.0l V6 from the Explorers fit a tasmin? I think their basically the same block as the 2.8 engine aren't they?

I think so.
There's some other threads on here about that motor.

Width should be the same, and you can certainly fit an extra 2 or 3 inches of length in the bay before fouling the crossmember.

Not much space for manifolds, and it's such a heavy old lump, isn't it.

I'd have thought turboing the 2.8 would have been easier, and a proven project, but the duratec sounds even more interesting.

I know where there is a 2.5 durotec lump locally for not much money...I really am tempted by that, just need to figure if it will mate straight to a sierra 5sp box!

A later 5 speed rwd box will definately fit. Ford power products offer all the bits. Plus the Jag S Type uses a derivative of the duratec V6.

Later as in sierra being later than the fourspeed capri box on early Tasmins?

I'd heard that about the Duratec/S type crossover, apparently swapping the heads from a Jag to a Duratec is worth while. My only concern is that the electronics would be a right bastard to sort, maybe a Megasquirt/Emerald etc system would be the way to go in this instance?
