Bonnet insulation...

Anyone tried something different, I have stuck back the black factory fitted stuff once before and the old impact adhesive always gives way in the end... I did see a car with silver/foil foam backed stuff once at a club meet.

Anyone use anything different?

Hi

I used industrial strength double sided tape that I purchased through RS Components, it is designed to with stand high temp environments. Used it to stick back the Griffs under bonnet heat mat 2 yrs ago, so far still holding

Why bother with it at all? You could save a little weight by getting rid of it

I did loads of research into trying to find the foil coated stuff at a reasonable price and in a suitable size, but always got put off by the huge price tag.

Eventually, I called Wollies Trim (www.woolies-trim.co.uk) and spoke to someone who really knew his stuff. He recommended the standard, latex backed stuff (item No. 292 in the sound deadening section of their page). Its fire resistent to all the relevant British Standards, and cheap at just under a tenner for a piece 137cm x 100cm. To stick it on, they sell a litre tin of heat resistent adhesive. Total price was just under 40 quid for everything if I remember.

May not be the prettist finish in the world, but I personally just wanted something cheap for the greasy underbonnet area. Does the job for me!

I used evo stick, several times, but it didn,t last long.
14 months ago I used Wicks own brand impact adhesive and it still stuck down well.
I have also used this when I carpeted mt Taimar. It's good stuff!

i used loads of contact adhesive (loads = lashings of it, the entire tin) and left the bonnet upside down in the lounge with weights holding it down overnight - overkill maybe, but its not fallen off yet and that was 2 years ago

Stuck mine with Latex carpet addhesive its 12 months still on. wouldnt like to do without it, mine has imprints of varous underbonnet bits on it. its probably stopping then boring through the bonnet!
