350i (S2) with 4.5 V8 available for spares
Discussion
Well,
kind of following on from an earlier post really.
A guy near me (Birmingham) wants rid of his 350i (G reg). He stacked it sideways into a tree a couple of years ago and it has been sat since.
I have seen the car this morning. It looks like the drivers door took the brunt of the impact. Bodyshell appears not too bad apart from the windscreen frame is snapped in drivers corner. Chassis is said to be unbent, although what condition rust wise I don't know. The guy claims it is a 450i but body shape is the same as my 350i (see my profile) and not the same shape as the 420 as I would expect.... Maybe a 350i which someone has previously added a 4.5 V8? The car has covered just 35K miles.
Anyway £1000 is his "best" price although I bet he might take a bit less if pushed.
Salvageable bits look to include: Carpets, seats, a set of reasonable spilt rim compomotives (tyres dead) and of course all the mechanical gear. All in all, it appears too far gone to be safely put back on the road but has some worthwhile salvageable parts.
Ooh and a nice reg plate - B82 TVR
My main question(s) being is this worth £1000 and does anyone around the midlands area fancy clubbing together to raise some cash to buy it? (ideally 3 or 4 of us clubbing together). I can put in £200 - £300. Any other takers?

Yes, I think that you are correct here.

There never was a 450i, only a 450SE. The SE body shell is different to the i body shell. 420SE is different again, just in front of the rear wheel arches.
£1000 sounds like a good deal. Where else can you buy a 450 engine with all ancillories and ecu for that price... unless it's been ripped out of a 4.6 Range Rover, lol
Rear offside tail light is cracked, although the light unit itself appears ok. Near side all OK.
Dash is the same as my 350i - so probably NOT an SE dash.
Interior is cream with blue piping - apart from needing a good clean looks in excellent condition - no cracks, tears, rips. The drivers seat looks to be crushed at the base where the drivers door impacted. I don't know if this is just the foam and it would spring back to its original shape after 2 years or if the frame itself is bent??? Carpets are grey, dash veneers are reasonable apart from the glovebox veneer.

Well chassis 33, I am told the engine was just beautiful before it was left to stand for 2 years. I am told there is service history with the car which will help to assume what state the engine is in. I am unsure however what damage (if any) can occur to an engine if left for 2 years. I am guessing it would need turning over by hand before anyone tries to start it. The ECU (a 4CU) comes with the car.
Hope this helps?

Sounds like a very good grandsworth.
I don't need anything apart from dash veneer, but no doubt my car will fall to bits as soon as you've got rid of everything.
As for the dash veneer, know doubt you have seen it anyway, but if not, follow the post below:
www.pixeltechnology.co.uk/wedge/maint_veneering.html
I did the centre piece of my dash and was well impressed with the results. I went for the iron-on veneer which does not give quite as good a finish as proper wallnut, but none the less, well woth the few hours effort.

4.5 is a strange capacity anyway...
It depends, if its a Wedge 450 then its 94mm bore and 81mm stroke, 4497cc; if its what Land Rover call 4.6, 94mm bore and 82mm stroke, 4552cc (despite what I said to Lee earlier, sorry)
Is there an engine number anywhere to say what it originally was? eg 11A is SD1 3.5 Vitesse spec
Regards
Iain

Funny that, because I just looked up your old thread about re-veneering, to see how you got on.
Anyway, glad you got it sorted.
I'm waiting until winter closes in, then I'll do something about my dash veneer (needs replacing).
Thanks for the link, but I did see it on the Wedgepages... an excellent site.(..thanks MikeB, and to the author of the article, David Skelly
