update on clutchless clutch
Discussion
1986 280i clutch stopped functioning..couldn't get under it so eventually ended up at a mechanics..he undid the u-joint and managed to slide the transmission back 2". The mounting bracket for the slave cylinder is held on by two alloy bolts. The head of one had sheared off and the other had a large crack at the head end..both were replaced with steel bolts..The clutch works well now. (only 37000 miles) I have learned to care for the clutch. To change it means removing the engine!
