Cam change time

Well I,ve finally had to 'bite the bullet' and the 400 is booked into Offords for a cam change. Been putting off the costs as long as possible, but with winter looming its time to get my cheque book out :yikes:.
I,m taking the car in on the 5th Nov and will be wedgeless for 3-4 days.

Anyway, last run of the season this Sunday to the Mosler factory at Dereham with the rest of the East Anglian gang. Hope is sunny. :driving:

Been quoted £750+VAT by Offords to include new followers etc.

Ouch! I did this myself, took a weekend. As it's all at the top of the engine it was quite a lightweight job. I also did the head gaskets at the same time so it would be a quicker job without.

I also did the Dave Hardcastle tuning mod to lube the timing chain better - you drill a small hole at the front of the valley which lets oil drip into the front cover area. A 5-minute job with everything out.

Which cam have you settled on?

I did think of doing the job myself, but been a while since I've done any major engine work, and never on a Rover V8 before. Also spare time seems a rare thing nowdays, so decided to go this route. Havn't been asked about the cam preferences, I assume they will fit the standard (for 400se) cam. Is there a better one out there ? Any info appreciated. Ideally I don't want to have to spend a fortune remapping etc do to the cam change, so I assume standard is the way to go.

I changed the cam on my 400se a while back and after mch agonising I went for the V8 Developments MC1 type.
Its slightly more agressive than the cam that came out and it certainly gives the car more go! Only down side is that its a bit tappity when cold.
No remapping necessary either.
