I drove to England (from Holland) to collect a 390se which turned out to be not quite the condition i was told it was (understatement!) and altough a bit disappointed i just told him it was not what i was looking for.
I was never angry as the man treated me well and i just continued my search and came home with a beautifull 350i. Last month i traded the 350i for a 400se but never regretted the trip i made three years ago.

Well put comments although I too missed the first post.
My almost first Wedge was no where near the condition advertised despite the beautiful pictures. Fortunately, I had an independent shop check it out before going 1,000 miles to collect it. I have always wondered why the seller cheerfully agreed to the inspection and drove it there himself knowing that the flaws (including one side being scraped down a wall)would certainly kill the sale.
I guess buying and selling used cars is largely in the eye of the beholder and doing it from a distance make it all the harder and if it doesn't work out, frustrating too.

But while we're in the realms of speculation:
I'd be interested to know how much more or less in percentage terms Darren paid for the car he is happy with. And if it's more, how much the difference might have gone towards rectifying whatever he felt had been glossed over or misdescribed by Hamish. I sincerely hope time for reflection has tempered the raw feelings evident earlier.
I wish Hamish all the best in retrying his ebay sale. It's never easy to represent your car in a few paragraphs, and the last thing he should do is spend more words describing faults than the joys of wedge ownership.
But while we're in the realms of speculation:

Sorry to poke my nose in. but I bought my wedge from a guy that seemed totally genuine. MOT'd the day before i collected it etc etc.
Brakes failed on the way home (very scary on the motorway) indicators didn't work neither did the reverse lights. still not sure about the chassis work that he did (outriggers) steering is now dodgy ( suspected steering pump). Windscreen has big crack in it, which i saw on viewing but thought it would fail MOT on that. and odd little other bits.
I maitain good faith and except the fact that it is a wedge and despite my whining I love working on the car it is part of the fun and what brings us all together. my dad owns a Roll Royce and those guys never have the chats that we do. the price i paid was good and when i have it back on all fours it will be worth twice what i paid for.
In the sellers defence ( I put my self in his position) Selling a car can be just as scary as buying one, if you are genuine. I think the advert was as genuine as you can get. It stated that the car had problems, what more can he say! it is up to you to back enquiries and sensible descisions. And I applaud his decision not to sue. I love my british wedge and am proud that there are folk still around who won't follow the americans and claim for everything! IMHO.

I had a quick look for it, and I do remember seeing it when first posted, but I think it may have now been deleted / removed. There do seem to have been at least 2 400's for sale in Scotland recently, the dark red one and a green one, which was withdrawn from ebay.
