Shouldn't have jet washed the engine!!!

Jet washed the engine about 2 weeks ago. And since then when I start the engine the oil pressure goes off the scale. I didn't use the full force of the pressure washer just enough to blast the worst of the oil and gunk off. Have been out in the car and had no problems. But have decided not to start it until I have got an idea of what is wrong! Any ideas???

Perhaps you've blasted the connector of the oil pressure sensor off, or blasted crap in it and left it with a bad connection? Not sure about your oil gauge, but others I've played with would shoot right up to top of scale if not connected to the sensor......

Mine did the same when the sender stopped working properly.

Sorry to seem stupid but where is the sender unit, is it mentioned in the bible???

Normally on the oil filter housing.

Cheers guys. I want to change the oil aswell and have read in the bible that it can be a bit risky. has any one done it at home and want was the out come. I am no engineer but have grown up with cars and think i am pretty handy. Also hate the idea that there might be something as simple as an oil change that i can't do

Not as bad as it sounds, just don't let the oil pump drain or it needs re-priming.
The only problem i had was getting the old filter off!! Ended up whacking a screwdriver through it (Why do people over tighten them...!!)
As long as you have prepared, and don't go shopping mid job, you'll be ok.

For the remote inverted filter I pour some oil down there and also make sure the oil filter has some oil in it prior to fitting it. You do need lots of paper toweling around to catch the drips though.
After reading the bible for the first time I did an oil change I was nervous but I've had no trouble doing it.
TIP
Prior to the change make a mental note of how long it takes for the oil pressure to build up on a cold start. That way when you start up after the change you've got an idea if things are OK or not. A watched kettle and all that. Remember if the oil comming out is very old it will be a lot thinner so the new stuff will probably take a slight bit longer to build pressure as well as there being the odd air bubble going through.
Be brave, use good oil that's not too thin, and do it regular.
