Having successfully backflushed the heater matrix, and got the heater working on my 89 350i, the fan has now packed up :banghead:. I'm assuming the motor is at fault as it only ever worked on full speed. How easy is it to get at, and where is it ? Should I get the motor reconditioned, or is it easier to get a new one ?

Any help appreciated.

I'd try removing the switch first. the contacts often get dirty / corroded. You may be able to clean them or replace. Easier than removing the motor.

Could also be that the wiring connector that goes to the fan motor has come undone. Take out the little bit of vinyl trim just to the left of the steering column and you can get access to the motor/wiring. Could also play around with a live feed to test it.

To get the fan out is a reall bastard. However the fan itself is the same as that used in Vauxhall Nova's circe 1990.

I found in mine that the multi plug had been wired up incorrectly only giving me one speed out of a possible three.

My switch went us. Took it apart and the contact had got too hot and deformed the seat was and lost contact.....if that makes sense.
