Fuel Sender Unit - fitting ?

Has anyone fitted a fuel sender unit on a 400SE - I presume
once you remove the wires then the unit just turns until you
find the slot and you then pull it out..

I think mine's gone (reading full all the time) so I'll be interested in this too

Mine reads empty sometimes when it's about 2/3 full. Must be a bad connection on the pot just at that point. So I'm also interested in how easy it is to get them out and back in...

Hi all, I had the same problem with mine(350i). Took the fuel sender out, and took the cover off the resistor bit. Found it was the fine wire had broke. Very fiddly bit- soldered it together. Spank my ar*e and call me Charlie, it now works great. Form an orderly queue!

Not sure about spanking your ar5e though...

How easy is the fuel sender to get at? I also have problems with mine (reads empty when actually 1/2 full)

That's interesting - might have to look out for that but the main reason for doing the job is
that it's leaking loads of 4* .. and I don't fancy welding anywhere near a gallon on fuel of the floor

On the 520 the sender was boilted in and used a cork gasket to provide the seal.
The gaskets are no longer available and I had to make one.
I also took the opportunity to calibrate the thing by bending the arm so that it went to zero only when it touched the tank floor.

What did you make the gasket out of Steve ?

err as it was a cork gasket I used err cork...


Any good motor factor should sell the stuff.
