As we all do I'm sure, I'm wondering if the price I've pitched my car at is a problem.

I've pitched it at £10,500 with the thought that 'standard' SEACs are worth about 14 - 15K, and I would accept it wouldn't command that sort of money. Also it is a very good car - many compliments have been received. You could also put a 'standard' SEAC body on it and still have room for some 'profit'!!!

There are many ways of doing a deal, so an accommodation of some sort could be made with a serious purchaser. Maybe I'll just take it off the market. Otherwise it may just be stashed away. But I'd rather sell it in the knowledge that it was being enjoyed.

Oh to find someone to introduce to the joys of Wedging!

Let me know by emailing me direct.

Spread the word chaps!

I'd love to know how you costed that one. How much is a new SEAC body? 8 to 10 grand?

Unless you slash the price drastically I can't see it going before the spring. Compare it with www.pistonheads.com/sales/37044.htm and www.pistonheads.com/sales/51506.htm

It's not completely hopeless though - I bought a wedge in January.

I've just remembered that a guy had contacted myself and Grahamw48 about getting a wedge back in the summer. If you want I can dig out his number and see if he's still keen. He's up here though.

Surely a 420SEAC with normal bodywork is a 420SE. This means its value is similar to the 390SE which seems to be between £3000 and £4500 if very nice.Putting a gross SEAC spoiler and some stickers on it dont increase its value or desirabilty by £7000

JJ that's your first issue

I know the price of 3 SEAC's sold recently and it was not up there

2nd issue is going to be shape and provenance

JJ - have to agree with cuneus regarding SEAC pricing - 13k tops for a low mileage mint example.

No way you could buy at 10 and re-body for SEAC money.

As to whether you are asking the right price - that's obviously for you to decide and without getting into debate about your car a good SE should surely be worth 6 to 10k depending upon condition but maybe more importantly how long the seller is prepared to hang out.

IMHO if you are in no rush keep it close to what you are asking - there's so few around rarity should add a premium - far too many fire sales occur with wedges and they are not generally realising the prices they should.

In WA there are so few people you can affect used car prices by sticking one vehicle out cheap or vice versa. Wedge owners unite - the shape and sound are unique - if it had a prancing horse on the bonnet it would be worth triple !

But of the 40 or so built, how many are low mileage and mint? Indeed how many are left?

I was very very lucky when I bought mine (right time, right place and cash in pocket) Oh and lucky that Chunder had to pull out at the last moment I had an outright bargain but cars are cars and I've yet to make a profit on one!

PS. is 63000 miles low mileage for a Wedge?

Your'e not trying hard enough then I've made an outright profit on two cars in two years (excluding fuel).

My Wedge came with 68k on the clock in 2001, and has clocked up about another 50 miles since.

I dont mean to offend but my honest opinion is that you will never get 10.5K for your car. In my opinion the car is worth no more than 4K. You may ask why? well i have just sold my 5 litre 350i for 5K with 300BHP and a mit load of receipts for thousands of pounds that have been recently spent on it. In my opinion that car was worth far more than yours.

on the upside:
Put it in the E&M with the 'hold till sold' deal (nationwide) for £75 - it might just tickle someone's fancy.

on the downside:
Remember Clives Wedge (BBWF concours winner) 18500 miles - that sold not long ago for about £9000ish? IIRC
Not a SEAC I know, but who cares when you find a car in that condition, it was a superb minter.

Does your Wedge in any way compare with that?

Hello chaps, been offline with PC troubles...

I always remember a mate of mine said to me something’s only worth what people are prepared to pay (?). Strange saying but he's is right... look at the crap that sells at boot sales, yet if you somethings in good nick or nice it don’t move!

I was looking for a wedge for a while, and it has been a funny old market this year. Wedges were holding their price well, and then from this spring it seemed to go naff. I did think it was the fuel price at one point... I think re-erend is right prices are on the drop at the mo.

Also some people think that if you spend loads on a car doing it up etc. you gets your money back... I don’t think you do. Im gonna spend some money on mine to do some sprints (for fun) and I know what I spend I wont get back, but I just want to enjoy the 2min blats without anything coming the other way at me!

Couldn’t give a toss if mines 2k or 6k, I just love the car and it makes me smile

Good luck with the sell.

If you did, I think I'd be advertising mine for around £45K now (oops, plus the £15k it cost be to buy in the first place)

My sentiments entirely....I've no idea what mine is worth - could be £7k could be £15 (ha ha) as it's not original but it is one of the fastest wedges around...Your friend is right, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Anyway, who wants to give me £90k for mine so that I don't need to borrow any money to pay for the Aston?

If you want to get an idea of what someone will pay for your car, put it on ebay. You can always use a reserve so it doesn't get sold for a price you are unhappy with it.

I sold my 280i on ebay this summer, and got more or less what I wanted for it.

No tyre-kickers.
No test-drives.
No hassle.
No negotiating.
Cash on collection.

I do miss it though.

If he can get a nice 390 for 4.5k he's doing well.
Gross SEAC spoiler - I guess we all have our own opinions and it's a public forum.
With that in mind I'm off to find the Bugatti forum.

The car very nearly sold to an 'outsider' for a somewhat higher price. But then his girlfriend became pregnant! Funny old world, innit!
