Beware scam purchasers

For any of you putting your cars up for sale soon, or already for sale, beware of purchasers operating a scam. I've had the usual Nigerian number.....? whatever it is - "I'll send you more than the price of the car etc....", but I have also had an enquiry from another party insisting upon being given home address and addresses of previous owners. The address this person gives is false. Another enquirer also requires some scrutiny - I may be able to tell you more about this later.
This sort of request probably has something to do with wanting to know where your car is as it is worth several thousand pounds - do you get what I mean without me spelling it out?
I would also suggest you scrub out the index number on any photos you publish with your ads.

I had loads of scammers when selling my tiv and previous vehicles. Some won't give phone numbers and want different contact details and strange requests. Meet me in the car park, I have the cash type.
All should be lined up and shot
. Serious buyers have nothing to hide so dont mind passing on their details. Even the "very keen to sell cos there is something wrong with it" should keep scammers in the dark. Robin B*****ds

I've long thought that eBay (at least over here) was a good place to troll a vehicle knowing that most sensible people wouldn't really buy a specialty car sight un-seen but at least it started a potential dialog. Guess that will be out too. Good luck with your sale, wish those of us across the pond could play. Grady

When I was buying I always offered my TVRCC number if they wanted to check me out.
To put it bluntly its a s**t job selling these days.
You need to be really careful, identify fraud is really on the up and a massive problem at the mo. It dont take alot for a scuumbag to get enough on you to go spending. Check this site out for more details (slightly off the selling the car thread but I just had some off this done to me).

Yep, beware of bogus callers. I lost a mint classic quattro turbo last year after someone phoned up and asked a load of questions a couple of which now seem odd so watch out for them.
What sort of alarm does it have (I stupidly said none, just an immobiliser), then after a few more, another saying what was my postcode and could he come round tomorrow anytime during the day because he worked nights...( i said no cos I work all day, he then said could my other half show him round, to which I said no she was out too.... then the killer question - would it be on my drive so he could view it in daylight...). Yep, you guessed it, two days later it vanished off my drive... and before you ask "number was withheld.."
Bit wiser now... if anyone asks the alarm is a nightmare as neighbours are too nosey (even if it hasn't got one !)... and car is always garaged..

I've got a funny feeling that some people are also just after your email address so they can hack into your computer or send a virus. Things seem to be going a bit slowly now even though I'm running all sots of protective stuff.
