Hi Guys,
I have now got a 4.6 to slap into my 400se, however i want to know if the valves are any bigger in the 4.0 head. I would rather keep the 4.0 intact so i can sell it on, but if the heads off the 4.0 are better than the 4.6 ones, then i will break it up.

I believe that the valves in the old and new engines are the same diameter (Vitesse size), unless someones done a BV conversion of course. The later heads have a smaller combustion chamber, so used a composite head gasket to retain the same CR as the early versions (of the standard Rover engines, before TVR did anthing). TVR supposedly ported the heads, so they may be better than standard 4.6 heads. Unless its already been done, I'd recommend a BV conversion.
