steering bearing

What a difference it makes! The old bush had a small amount of play, about 5mm at the steering wheel. Bought a new sealed for life bearing, included was outer casing to fix to bulkhead,£26. The hole in the bulkhead needed widening, achieved by use of a flapper wheel & drill. Once fitted it feels like a different car. Best £26 I have spent for a long time
Well it's a standard design bearing, I'd guess 12mm or 1/2" bore, self-centring. I looked up a couple in one of our suppliers catalogues, IIRC it was about £12.
Stockton Bearings would probably do something, I may be able to get a bit off the £££ too...

The bearing was ordered as SLFL 3/4. The 3/4 being the hole size.
The 2 grub screws in the bearing hold it tight on the steering shaft, even though it is triangular on mine
edited to say; picture was taken off TVR wedge pages. The black rubber is a boot{old inner tube} to fit over to stop water ingress

see if you can get a price for the bearing ian ,need to do something on these winter nights looks like ill have to buy u more beers other side manifold blowing like hell prob something to do with trying to keep up with Pink Panthers Sagaris

Any updates on this thread ? Like, specific order details for the bearing and any other simple mods which can help modernise / improve the feel through the steering. Considering new shocks before the trip to Nice next month. But if under £50 can make things feel better, I'll save the other £700 for later

Will check wedgepages, thanks. Mechanic just finished repair on head gasket and now rad is leaking. Was hoping to have car ready to get to Magnum gig in Wolverhampton thursday. Maybe....
As for P5B AAARGH!! Months and £100's later and still not sorted. Jumped into reverse gear while in P when blipping throttle while car ticking over on path last week.... while stood outside car.... it ran into fence, peeling door into front wing, meaning replacment door and front wing. Rip off prices from renowned sources on rusty stuff, too. Well cheesed off. Need replacement new auto box. There goes the deposit on the webasto sun roof cos I cant justify purchase now. It never rains, ey?
