Body off Rebuilds

Just wanted to let you know about this web site - someone on he Griff forum has just completed a fully body off rebuild and documented the whole lot.

It's seriously impressive.

Useful! I forgot to take photos of the Chim strip, they're just what I'm going to need to help my beer clouded mind!

BTW. If anyone needs photos of a Tasmin strip, I took hundreds of my 280, however they're all pre-digital camera and on 35mm photos. Graham, you saw the box of them I had at BBWF!

Notice how the quality of the flooring improved as the job progressed. I'm sure Fay's garage will be treated to a new floor too.

Incredible piece of work. I cringe at the thought of the number of hours required to grind, polish and shine... but loved the copper work. Excellent!

Superb job, wish I had the patience and time to go that far. Was it all done in a single garage ?

Would love to know what he is using to polish as seems to be getting some good results there

LOL I knew someone would mention the floor I had to paint it before starting the engine rebuild, the other side is getting painted now that the car is out of the way.

I saw the box, but then I ran away. Looked like the wedge equivalent of "and here's auntie Mabel holding an ice cream on blackpool beach"

Looks like a real labour of love.

One thing that worried me a bit is that you painted the inside of the engine. Which is probably fine, but I know a couple of people who've done that and regretted it because the paint didn't cope with the conditions inside the engine. Too late now, but if there's a next time you might want to reconsider that bit? Overall excellent job though, really admire the attention to detail.

Hi Pete, the Valley is painted in a different paint to the rest of the block. I used POR15 engine paint for valley and as long as the surface is clean of oil it's bonds to the block unbelievably well.

As for doing it different the next time, this IS the next time and it's still working well.

I understand your concern though because 'normal' engine laquer is nothing like POR 15 engine laquer and would come of quite easily I'm sure.

Out of interest Dave, why did you decide to paint the engine at all when originally it is bare aluminium? Rich...
