Windscreen fitting Who to trust ??

The screen in my 400 has started to go a bit milky at one corner and I want to get it replaced. the local autowindsreen place say they can do it ( through insurance or not ) but can I trust em ?? on the phone they did not even know what a 400 / Tasmin / Wedge was. Who have you used ?? any good ?? how much ??

Read the bible. There have been a couple of cars where the knife they use to cut the mastic also cut the through the dash and pillars trim.

and if this happens will the company foot the bill for having the trim repaired?
I used the RAC screen fitter, they made a good job, I had previously had a rubber trim made up and fitted, looks realy good and the RAC re-fitted it for me, no problems. hides all that horrible mastic. most wedgers who have seen it have commented how tidy it makes the screen look.
I used a Ford Transit rubber and cut the corners to miter it, the edge is so sharp to curve a rubber around it.

They should and when asked many say they don't want to touch it as a result.

I was a bit worried about letting some kid loose round me 400 with a sharp object before I posted this, but now I am positivly petrified. the 400 has a much smaller, thinner band of sealer round it than my old 350, not much more than a few mil, does that make it worse / more difficult ??

Our 400SE had the trim slashed on the A pillar from a previous windscreen change.
Do a search on this there is some history. I used a local firm (recommended) i didnt need to ask the quetions for confidence as he had an old Jag XJ12 he had done, plus he was working on a Jensen. he knew his stuff about the trim etc. He also sourced it with the right tint accross the top from the screen network. if you look about you will get a good job.
If you use a TVR dealership (repeat, dealer not specialist) he will order a screen from the factory that has the logo at the top and puts £££££s on it, then he calls in a mobile fitting firm. And prior to this you get that old story (that gives me the ump) "oowwwh not sure they make them anymore sir..." (hope I havent broken any rules here(?))

I am starting to think I may put up with the milk
I had mine fitted a year ago by RAC/autoglass in strood Kent and the guy said he'd done Griffiths before, but not a wedge. I spoke to the guy and he seemed to be on the level,so i trusted them. The original windscreen on my '88 390 had some 'J' section shaped rubber to cover the gap between the windscreen and the pillar. Wanting to keep this, i spoke to my freindly parts man at my local TVR dealer, and he got me some Tuscan windscreen finisher which i asked the RAC guy to fit.
I was really impressed by the finish and he'd managed to bend the finisher around the corners of the windscreen instead of having to cut and join them at 45Deg as had been done on the original one. I did have to leave it with them overnight though.
Apparently they used a kind of cheesewire to cut through the old mastic, which does risk catching the leather/vinyl trim, but they took their time and did a great job.
In other words speak to the Guy who's gonna do the job, and you can usually tell if they are the sort of guy you'd trust.

if you speak to the mobile windscreen director and general manager (0117 3042000, Phil Lomas) you might get a good deal. I bought a brand new (made 1 month before) screen direct from him recently but not ready to fit it yet, he gave me some trim as well. He is based at the Bristol main depot and just loves fast cars...
