225 or 205

need a new tyre on the front of my 400, currently on 225/50x15, but they are hard to get hold of and rather expensive, so i thought i would use 205/50 instead, will they fit on
my 8j rims wihtout looking to stretched.

I tried some Z rated Fuldas on the rear of my old SEAC once and they were terrible. They "squirmed" under load although ultimate grip seemed reasonable. This was a few years ago and they too were around the £80 mark. There were several other varieties on offer around £90-95 which were better but can't remember which now. My two local dealers were able to get most makes within a couple of days and I would steer well clear of going to 205's, even if doesn't affect the breaking and grip, I wonder if the insurance company might have something to say come an accident.

If you are going to fit 205 instead of 225 you will probably want to go for the 55 profile as it will give you the same rolling radius. If you do i would fit these to the fronts and have the 225's on the rear.
www.mytyres.net seem to have a special price on the Dunlop 9000's at the moment just over £50 a tyre .... thats cheap.

I fitted 205s up front on the 350 (no power steering) and they looked OK, if a little skinny . Just had a look at the 400 (fitted with 225s). With the OZs and the more flared arch I dont think 205s would look right. So Blain, sell one of your vital organs on ebay and get the correct tyres for the car, you know it makes sense ( spoiled ships, halfpence, tar etc )
