Wyn,

Whats the latest on the car mate?

Are they going to repair it or what?

Let us know.

Cheers.

Waiting for the assessor to go and see it.
Been on the phone off and on during the week pushing, getting people to fax things to other people

Apparently the value of the car is dictated by "the market". So I'd be obliged if all you 400SE owners will put your cars up for sale at £8k to £9k to save my car

That car was just right. All it needed was a few cosmetic touches.

If it helps, paratical classics magazine values your car as follows:
condition 1 - £10,000
Condition 2 - £7,500
Condition 3 - £5,000

Based on this and you state your car needed a few minor cosmetics only, I'd think you could argue that yours is worth £8,500 - £9,000???

Did you have a valuation certificate for insurance purposes? OR do you know anyone who could produce a valuation certificate (and maybe backdate it)?

Just a thought.

With "aggreed value" policys I have had in the past, I have always had to supply a form detailing the condition of the car from bodywork to mechanics to interior etc.
The form is then usually agreed, a value assigned and lastly signed by a representative club / association. I have always paid £20-£30 for a valuation.

Unless the insurer has proof that your car maybe worth more, it is usually only insured at "market value", which is the value your insurer considers they can go and purchase same spec of cer, usually regardless of condition.

Maybe worth reading the small print?

Wyn as you have not had it very long maybe you could value it at what you paid plus any other things you have bolted on or replaced

That's a thought. I bought it at a specialist dealer. He had it up for £8995.
I,m sure he would write me a letter of confirmation if theres any dispute.

Insurance at this point suddenly becomes a very slippery business! They should pay out on the agreed value or whats the point of agreeing one in the first place ?

You could always ask the TVR car club to forward you on a letter as well (assuming your a member) to confirm that the value you paid was a fair price in the marketprice - they should know(?)

Alternatively start digging out adverts from the web or magazines like Top Marques or start asking specialists like Richard Thorpe or the boys at TVRcarparts to confirm in writing the current market value of the car - whats gonna happen is because the insurance company hasn't the feintest idea as to the value of your Wedge they will either write it off or offer you something stupid.

Start building your case now fella.
