anyone any ideas if it is a special brand? Been told to find out from my parts shop. Chances are it is just normal fluid but without a 'bible' to look in I had better ask. Halfords own brand says "not suitable for some Ford power steering units". Not sure why and no one bright enough in the shop to ask. Thanks in advance T

Not come across that one. I thought any old ATF would do. My can of Comma says universal, for all cars. Nothing about Ford steering systems.

Lifted straight out of the "Service Schedules and Record Book" 1984. Covers from chassis number DH5447RI.

BP - BP Autran Dexron II
Castrol - Castrol TQ Dexron II
Esso - Esso Automatic Fluid
Mobil - Mobil ATF 220 (Dexron)
Shell - Shell Donax T6 or ATF Dexron
Texaco - Texamatic Dexron II

Having said all that, years ago I just bunged in generic power steering fluid and haven't had any problem.

I put Slick 50 power steering fluid in mine 3 years ago. No problems.
