Best oil for my 450SE

Hi all,

Just wondering wha't the best oil to use in my 450SE, the badge under the bonnet says Century 15W 40 Synthetic, never heard of it and probably couldn't get it anyway, also oils will have moved on considerably since the car was built, I'm sure the oils available knower days are far superior. Any way what's the best, I've heard Mobil 1 babded about alot but again there are a few different types. Any info greatly appreciated.

I went through this myself a few months back,there is lots of choice.Have you done a search?through past threads ,these guys are have so much knowledge it's great.

I use Mobil 1 15w50,I spoke to the previouse owner and thats what he used,he had it for 5 years and it runs great ,looking at the threads there are many preferred choices ,What did you use in the 280I?

Ask opieoilman He will only recommend stuff he sells but he doesn't sell rubbish. I asked him about Mobil 1 motorsport (which is what Beacon is recommending) and he said it is very good but a bit pricey. If you are happy with it then no need to change but Silkolene and Motul do similar that is cheaper and slightly better.
BTW Mobile 1 motorsport can be obtained from Halfords
When I have used up my supply of Mobil 1 I intend to change over to Silkkolene 10W 50 or 15W 50 but that's two changes away.

I would be up for a change but thought better the devil your car knows than anything else,atleast to start with.Looking through the threads in the past there does seem to be loads of choice but you are right Mobil 1 is up there with the best of them price wise.

The oil's OPIE recommends always seem really expensive.

There are plenty of good oils out there - like Castrol Magnatec - mobil race stuff, I've used the valvoline race oil which is good.

I have to say that I use Motul 300V 15W 50 which I got from Opie. Last lot cost just under £30 for a 4 litre pack (I bought 16 litres) including delivery. Still cheaper than Mobil 1 from Halfrauds or Demon Tweaks. I did try to find it in France, where I would expect it to be significantly cheaper as its made there, but no luck. Even emailed the manufacturer without response.
