Anyone tried fittng a bonnet scop?

The 4.5 has gone in fine and so responsive compared with the 3.5. I recommend it

The only problem, the engine sits a few mm too high, thus not allowing the bonnet to close. An air scoop above the plenum would sort this out. Anyone tried it and does anyone have piccies as I have to be careful as I don't want the chaz-mobile, max power look!

Cheers in advance,
L33.

Tower View did one for Cirks car. Looked very nice. Worth a search as I think there is a piccy somewhere here.

Personally I wouldn't want a bonnet scoop on my car.

If it was my car, I would raise up the bonnet catch a cm or so and just have the bonnet sit a little higher. If all you need is a few mm, then removing the sound proofing and raising the catch should be enough. Then, just fit a couple of rubber stops to the bonnet on the 2 corners nearest the windscreen to stop it wobbling about at the edge.

For people who know whats under a Wedge bonnet, seeing a scope in the centre which is no-where near the air intake may seem a little odd. Could always fit a set of carbs though and just have a huge cut out instead to display them!

Good ideas from digga. I wonder whether one fot he early bonnets with a raised central section might do the trick?

Do you know what makes the difference? Can this be changed?

Did the later RV8's have a taller plenum, or is it my imagination?

If you're going to hack the bonnet, what about a nice big blower on top

It may have a heat insulator in it that raises the trumpet base off the manifold 1/2" or so. Speak to someof the Tasmin racers, they have very lightweight (as in thin) bonnets that may give enough clearance

IIRC wedg1e has an insulator also. How does he cope?

I don't know what makes the difference?
This engine came out of a wedge and the bonnet closed with no problems.
Its gone into my wedge and the bonnet won't close.

Very puzzled....

Not sure about the mounting locations on the wedge, but if they are slanted slotted holes to accept the threaded portions on the engine mounts.....then perhaps that it is sitting right at the top of the slots and could be moved down a little in the slots...if you get what I mean! i.e engine sitting a little higher than it should?!

I machined an equivalent amount off the trumpet base so the plenum height stays the same.
However if you fitted one and didn't do this, or fitted a plenum spacer (between the top and trumpet base) then you would raise the height...

Does a carbon fiber plenum take up any less room? I guess it's thinner than cast aluminium.
What a great excuse!

Loosen the twin bolts on each side, let the engine sit down on the mounts, and do them up again.

Do you have PAS? You might want to check the clearance of the pump pulley while doing this.

in my case, this is very close to the air intake!

The early bonnet is 'flatter' so you don't get any extra from the cemtral ridge. There is a plenum shaped mark in the under bonnet insulation on mine!

I do like the early bonnets, if anyone has one lying around, I'm after a spare...

Cirks - Exactly the idea I am looking for. Granted, for me it would do bugger all for air flow but at least I could close the bonnet and the ridge would allow the extra clearence I need for the plenum.

I was after a simular look but first cutting a hole in the right place and then bolting the scoop in place with a layer of black foam / rubber in between.

Yours looks like it has been properly bonded into the bonnet. Have you have any problems with stress cracks as the bonnet flexes?

Yup, completely bonded in, resined and respray of whole bonnet. The bulge/scoop actually started life as the bulge from a TVR S but rotated 180degs and reprofiled. Can't remember overall cost as this was done at the same time as the horrendous bill for the new engine, rad, exhaust, pumps etc etc but I think the complete bonnet work was around £450.

I guess scoops are readymates . . . but Cuda-shaped looks nice and would suit a Wedge.

I guess this would be an idea . . . you could use one for the intake.

Well, I've got my hands on a subtle scoop.
What do you think? Obviously needs fitting and painting. Is it a bit "chav"?
