On the Classic Car Show stand 2005 apparently - looks a nice car and current price is attractive. Has a 400SE body by the looks of it. Anyone know this car or got any comments?

Been saving myself (and money supposedly!) for an SEAC but I could be tempted...

Looks like a bitza

Series one 390SE shell, front spoiler, sills. Series two rear bumper & 'wing', wheels. 400SE boot spoiler. E reg is same as mine so that spoiler wasn't available then: presumably a retrofit.
Basically a dressed-up Series one then, no problem with that. But I bet it's not nearly 300 bhp....
No reserve so as long as it doesn't get pulled or ghost-bid up, could be a good deal.

I was going to bid on this prior to buying Dicky's 350i.

I received some good information from a ph'er to check the manifolds, and rear of the engine. He looked at it last summer, and stated it was a very nice car, but manifolds needed changing, just something to bear in mind.

Lovely colour though.

It wasn't the red one on ph that needs manifolds, that looks an absolute peach. The one I was referring to is the grey one on ebay, again, a nice car that I was seriously going to go for....until dicky's turned up

It's way too late a model to have an Andy Rouse engine; it's probably an NCK motor. Supposedly depending on which way the wind was blowing, NCK did more or less tuning to them but IIRC in a 'Sprint' magazine feature a few years back, Mark Adams commented that every 390SE he'd seen on a rolling road was within +/-2 or 3 bhp of each other, and a fit one is 240 bhp (only the very first AR engines were anything like 275 and only any use on a racetrack).
The 400SE motor was (allegedly) a more or less standard Range Rover 3.9 but has the later injection system so is mappable where the 390SE isn't.
Of course the passage of time means that many have been rebuilt with hotter cams etc...

Everybody seems to forget the John Eales engines, they came after the Andy Rouse series (about 16 of those) and the NCK engines.

Could be a ghost bidder, but we'll see... incidentally that car was at BBWF 05 (you can see it in some of the pics on TVRWedgePages).

My 400 has an NCK engine, with flapper injection but it was one of the first in 88.

So is it 3948cc-ish? If so was it a Rangey engine tuned by NCK or did they concoct it somehow? Or is it nearer 4000cc...?
