I am new to this forum so pardon me up-front if this has already been discussed in the recent past. I need a water pump for my stock 280i Cologne V-6. Can anybody give me a cross-reference for other makes/models/years that may have used the same water pump that I may stand a chance of finding in a local parts store. I'm in the US. Thanks.

Thanks shogan3. That was an amazingly quick reply. I will check it out tomorrow at a parts store. I wasn't sure whether they used the same engine in the US Mercury or not.

The waterpump is not too difficult to get, however the bypass housing that holds the thermostat bottom right corner of the water pump is. (from front of car)

So be really careful when you tighten those bolts that it is seated properly or you'll break it.

Know that problem... check out some of the prior threads on this topic.

Contact Norm at TeamBlitz.com. He is a Capri specialist but helps us orphaned TVR guys. I think a new pump was $75.00.

The 2.8 was used in 70's (Capri and Mustang 2) and 80's Ranger truck - but never with FI. Get the Hayes manuals for those models.

There is a thin-metal (aftermarket?) pump and a thick-metal (OEM?) pump. IMHO - the thick one from Norm is much better but remember to paint it b/c it will rust.

Re-situating the thermostat housing at the bottom end of the pump plate is a big pain. Try to get the car up in the air and/or get a 2nd set of hands. You will need to get 4 or 5 parts to stay in alignment as you bolt things together... (thermostat, rubber washer, front housing & rear housing)

If you have a pot-metal thermostat be VERY careful as it will crack if you over-tighten it or if the thermostat drops down out of its (impossible) proper position and wedges (no pun) between the pump plate and and the housing.
