Had to replace one of the plastic T pieces before the water pipes go through the bulkhead for the heater matrix. There was very little coolant that came out and the heater is very poor so assume it has an air lock.

what is teh best way to clear the air lock and top up the coolant?

I don't know if its the same on yours but my heater hose goes quite high up the bulk head. So I fitted a few bobs worth of copper plumbing in the top pipe with a valve to help bleed and air locks out.

I did the same and it's a great help in bleeding the system.
