Converting to coilovers isn't a trivial job, are you sure you want to do it yourself? If you're happy doing the engineering yourself then fair enough but if you're up for this I wouldn't expect you to be asking us how to sort the clearances. You might be able to save yourself quite a lot of grief by getting a coilover conversion from Sheng.
Have you ever seen the amount of strengthening the tasmin racers sue to run coil-overs to stop the arms and chassis mounts breaking? it's a complete re-engineer job. Also the std damper mount is so far inboard that the bending moment is tremendous .. the first thing I did with the tasmin racer rules was to get the damper position location rule relaxed so i could move it as far outboard as possible .. I suggest you do the same as i consider the std location for a coilover system potentially lethal on a 200 mile per season racer never mind tens of thousands of miles on our potholed roads.
Well I have been running the coil over design on the 520SE for about 6 years now and it is fine providing the bottom wishbone is strengthened around the mount, road springs and the right shock is used. I was the original tester for the Tower View upgrade and it is perfectly OK for road cars.
It is the very high spring rate on the Tasmin Racers and mine that caused the main issues with the mounts and to be honest, in these cases, the cars are really moving well outside of the original performance sphere. The original design is not ideal as it tends to bend the spring instead of compressing it. I only hit problems as I went to slicks and seriously increased the spring rates. I then redesigned the whole lot and solved the problems.
The Tassis racers also have this habit of kerbing everything which does increase the stress on the mounts which is why they broke coupled with running upto 1200 lb springs. Not exactly road use... They also were particularly prone to the problems as they were generally mk1 cars which have reduced turret bracing. The later cars were considerably strengthened in this area.

found the top monts were to short told gaz ho told me to send them back
im now waiting for them back
