Well,
With the wedge nearly "finished" to a high standard, I am having urges to sell her and get.... a Griffith!!! (no stone throwing please).

The car (see my profile) is an 87 wedge with 55k and full history. She is in very good condition, outriggers are OK, power steering, expensive sound system, electrics are fine and best of all, she now has a 4.5 litre JE Engineering engine conversion. www.jeengineering.co.uk/

The only bad point is the front seats have seen better days, although they not too bad.

Does the 4.5 conversion add any value? I understand at the end of the day, she is only worth what people are willing to pay but surely with the power she now produces, she must be worth a little more?
Answers on a postcard please...

I think I would be looking around the 6k mark at least with that spec, providing everything else has been replaced or kept in top nick (I've got a similar vehicle but 4ltr V8D engine and also thought about selling!). However I think one problem is that you are getting into 390/400 prices at that level. Maybe better appealing to somone just looking for a nice fast summer toy rather than somone whos specifically looking for a wedge, and thefore knows all different models...?

What do I know anyway!!

I do love my wedge, but I am getting rid of my TT and getting something more sensible. This will free up some cash for my weekend toy and I have always liked the Griff.
If I can get good money for the wedge, then it might be time for a change....
Then again, if there are any wedge 450s out there at the time then this would be an option too... decisions decisions

I'd say that the 4.5 does add some value but given that Mat's struggling to get £4.5K for his very tidy and well sorted car I'd say £5.0K tops. Best value to keep it?

mmmmmmmm Bigger engine = added value. Not sure thats how it goes, ask Pistolar.( in some cases it could devalue the car) The problem with changing the engine for a bigger lump is that you no longer have a 350 and you dont have a 450 either. you could only hope to get the top end of the 350 market price for it unless someone really values the mods you have made. Power wise your car is well sorted as is Mats, as was Pitolars 5.0L, but both are examples of how hard it is the liquidise your asset. Best thing Lee is to keep it and realise some grin value from it.

The standard rule for classic cars is - the more orginal it is, the greater the value for that model. It would seem, though, that greater creedence is given to that rule in Europe than in the UK. Witness modern conversions/improvements to Jags (suspension/brakes/5 speed boxes etc.) compared to the ASI certification system in Italy which even looks at the originality of the paint (the actual paint used when new) as a mark of originality and therefore genuinness and desirability.

Blimey i agree

Throw thousands of pounds at a 350 = loss
Throw thousands of pounds at a 390,400, seac = good investment

Lee, chuck the original engine back in and let me have the JEE engine for the Chim racer like you were going to before I told you how much it was worth!

Thanks for your honesty back then Iain. I have since been offered £4k for the engine alone (Shame I have since sold the original)

At the time, there was someone on this forum who shall remain nameless who wanted to give me £200 for the engine and cracked on that was a good deal!

Well, it finially went in my wedge and I haven't looked back since. Going sideways up the road is great fun

Don't worry mate, like I said at the time, you found it, it's your say what you did with it! Given the history it was one of those that could of been an expensive paper weight, or a very nice motor, it seems it turned out to be the latter. Enjoy!

Iain

I have his mobile number if you want it
