Help! clutch slave failed, replaced it with a new one, £30 from the local motor factors. When removed it came away with the actuator rod, and a plastic clip, when I fitted the new one I couldn't get the clip to positivley locate on anything, the result being about 10 miles of sweet gear change then a jammed rod when it slipped out of its location and had to get towed! Anyone know how the rod fits properly? I will also post the part no later for the piston - its much cheaper than from rimmer bros.
Cheers, Paul

Oh dear - if I'm not mistaken it's an engine out job to get this back in - unless anyone else has any tricks to do this in keyhole surgery style???

Same happened to me after refitting the engine.

I took of the prop /gearbox joint , undid the gearbox to engine bolts, remove centre section of exhaust, remove gear lever and managed to slide the gearbox back enough to get my hand in and retrive the pushrod from bottom of bellhousing and reattach properly.
It was a pig of a job and took a couple of hours to take off and reattach but I just din't want to remove the ngine again

So it can be done but not the easist job in the world

My next thought was if I then undid the engine mounts and held the engine on a crane could I get the engine far enough foward to actually remove the and replacethe clutch ?

Yeah moving the gearbox back sounds like the way to go here. A 2 or 3 hour job I reckon. be careful not to pull the clutch release arm off its pivot or you'll be in worse trouble!

I had to remove the release arm as it was the only way to get the rod out and yes it's a pig to get back on

Wow - how did you get the little square swivel things into the clutch release bearing? It's hard enough to get them in with the gearbox right out of the car!!!

I read somewhere that somebody cut an access hole in the bellhousing, and made a plate to go back over, making it just possible to get a few fingers in? Whats the general consensus on that one?

Tell me about it , trying to get the release arm on the spigot and still attached to the bearing was a total nightmare, but it went on eventually - with a little help from some very sticky grease on the bearing end Probably why it slips sometimes
