4.0 cross bolted block, 4.6 crank rods, 4.0 pistons ( more comp about 10.25 )
+ 1.5 mm on valves, throats opened to suit, real steel cam, shortened trumpets, lightened flywheel, Mark Adams chip, Fuel pressure regulated on the dyno for the best compromise, plus a couple of small bits and bobs, but thats the main bit. Bought the 4.0 engine for £700 ( 2001 Disco ) then got a porous 4.6 for not alot for the crank, sold the old 4.0 se motor for around £650, all my own labour and ebaying the left overs, cost me around £700. Not bad eh???

Now I would have thought that the torque should be higher than that - has the MA chip been re-mapped post the engine build? And are the injectors coping? Presumably you needed to crank the fuel pressure up quite a bit?

Hi Harry. Well, after all the hanging around, finally got 297 bhp (corrected from 255 at the wheels) and 320 of torque. I think that "only" 14% transmission loss is quite conservative though. The power was still climbing when it hit my self-imposed limiter of 6100 rpm (real, not tacho), but I thought a bit of mechanical sympathy was in order

Thats pretty impressive as you say 255 @ the wheels is very good and could read 300-310 on other roads, loads to torque
. Did you have an issue with the RR printout only going up to 5K5
, I kow they are about to change RR's over to a new one. btw My little 4ltr showed 237 and 247lb @ the wheels corrected to 275 & 285
. Whilst the torque peaks at 4K5 the power graph chops at 275hp @ 5K5rpm still climbing
, whereas I know it actually peaks around 6K1rpm. Shame its got to make room for a cerb now tho
.It did make 313bhp in 4th gear, but the dyno is set up to be more accurate in 3rd..whatever, i'm no dyno expert, but theoretically i could have claimed it!! Chip was out of another car, i'm not spending loads of money setting up a sh:te old injection system, i'd put the money into emerald.

Interesting, I understood this 3rd/4th gear thingy was an excess speed issue for the Rolling road, for a RV8/LT77/T5 car it makes little or no difference, if anything the torque multiplier of being in 3rd should give higher readings for Torque over a 4th (1:1 ratio) gear run from my limited understanding
. I think we'll leave it there though, as this forum, like the S forums, is not one for going around in circles banging anyones particular drum
