tips on starting newly built engine

Hi guys, long time no speak!. I have been busy over the last few months getting the engine done. Had all of the engine machined by DJE in Nuneaton. Have just put the engine back together and last weekend into the car. The tubular headers I got are causing some headaches tho. Lots of modification's to fit, although they were off another wedge - strange!. Need to get some Valvoline Racing Oil from somewhere who stocks in South Wales.
Anyway, its along time since I rebuilt an engine, last one was my RS2000 back in the 80's so have gone a bit rusty. Please can you tell me the correct way, what to do and what to look out for.

I think that a search will find V8Racings (Rob) recommendation within the last couple of months - can't remember which forum though. IIRC its something like run the engine on a light load c. 2-3K revs for 20 mins (sounds like a recipe book
) which allows the tappets to rotate properly, and, I believe, the rings to bed in. Use non-synth. oil, ideally warmed up first, but do not let the engine idle.

From memory you need to open door (right hand side as you look out of the window). put key in ignition and turn (clockwise) wait for massive noise to wake that neighbour of yours from her slumber and hope her Horlicks has'nt gone too cold. Then if the gauge 3rd from the left moves anywhere near halfway move the stick near your left leg across and up just after pressing the pedal nearest the kirb with your foot (left foot is best). release said foot sharply whilst stamping right foot onto the pedal furthest to the right. Hang on for grim death and shout at the top of your voice WAAHHOOOOOOOOOO

When I did mine a few years ago I installed the engine completely then took out the plugs, disconnect the injectors then spin the engine over on the starter.
Make sure that you have oil pressure before proceeding. Probably waste a whole batteryfull just turning it over and making it spins at a reasonable speed.
Check the ignition timing while you are doing this.
Recharge the battery, plugs in, reconnect the injectors and Robert should be your Mother's sibling!

Most important thing you need to do is prime the oil pump.Best way is with a tool that you attach to a drill and push on to top of oil pump drive. ( I have one if you want to borrow it, and will be @ the tvrcc meet tomorrow).

Mike-Bugger I passed that place yesterday. LDS spares springs to mind. Will ring them Sat morn to find out if they stock racing oil.
So lets get this running in thing sorted then, as follows
1.Prime oil pump ( wait for oil! )
2.Spark plugs out ( get new plugs -fit-then take back out! )
3.Unplug injectors
4.Use a sacfricial oil - non synth - 15w/50
5.Warm by using oxy/acet torch under sump
6.Run engine at 2000rpm for 20 mins ( Delia says )
7.Take off exhaust to tremorise old tart next door
8.Put it all back together and blast up to Hereford !!!

Ugly, at the bottom of Nantgarw hill in Caerphilly just off the A470 (Nantgarw) there is a motor factors just by the roundabout for the showcasecinemas and Makro - they always have Valvoline in stock.

20W50....... mmmmm have to check me receipts. But I would go with what Dave said or give him a bell to check. I haven't been able to get up there this week so thought I would do and oil change meself, which hole does it go in again
