Lacquer or not

Just about got my O.Z split rims looking good after alot of work, but now do I spray them with lacquer ?? or how do I keep em looking good without plenty elbow grease everytime I put Rubin in the garage ???

on my old saab alloys, I kept them regularly polished with auto glym. I spent a day putting a few layers on and brake dust etc used to wash of with ease - I also use wonder wheels cleaner which is very good, they recommend an inconspicuous test first though. Not sure about a lacquer, I know people that have done it before and its chipped and flaked very quickly - looks terrible, I guess it depends how well you prep the surface though?

Thanks Paul wonder wheels is not an option on split rims I think it might eat the seals and i never really let them get that dirty. I just want the best way to keep em nice and shinny with a wax polish or lacquer, auto sol stuff is great for cleaning but does not leave a protective coat behind, and they soon go dull again.

Those wheels are in a terrible state, they have been painted by somebody, need a refurb or ideally something nice and new.

Don't put lacquer on your alloys , I tried some and they won't shine up - so I took the stuff off with wify's nail varnish remover . Reason I tried it in the first place is the alloy cleaning lads cannot clean oz 5 spoke wheels without making them the same colour - spokes and rims - which is not original , they also remove the oz racing stickers as well , so no thanks I'll do it somehow myelf ! god knows how , any sugestions for a reasonable figure.

The stuff that was recommended after having mine refurbed was Hyperturismo Wheel Wax, about £17 a bottle, the wheels look superb and should stay that way with regular use. Only problem is I can't find any for sale - this seems to be identical in application/bottle bar the name: www.alloywheelwax.co.uk

I've been using WD40 on OZ wheels for the last 4 years and it hasn't done any harm. It's a very effective cleaner and shifts brake dust really well. It also leaves a protective coat after any excess is wiped off. Just avoid the brake discs when spraying it on the fronts!
