Shocks!

I believe there have been a few discussions on here as to what is best and what is not, and there doesn't seem to be a clear consensus. I've done some research and have probably settled on a pair. But I haven't been able to find prices for AVO for Wedges and where to get them from. Sounds daft I know. I've just been trying to get a price straight off the internet without sending and receiving great gobs of emails.

Any ideas chaps?

Not sure who sells AVO's, but I've run them front & rear for some years. I changed the fronts about a year or so back for Redlines, from RT Racing. I found the Redlines had a much more linear damping adjustment, whereas the AVO's (admittedly by then were 5 or 6 yrs. old) were linear for the first 1/3 of the range, and then seemed to go almost solid.

JJ, just bought some front AVOs from a performance centre in Essex and they were shipped next day from AVO. £50.00 a piece plus P&P plus drat.
Autoshocks.co.uk do the GAZ ones. Prices on the site but a wait of 2-3 weeks when I enquired. Both worked out about the same all in.

My Esprit has AVOs on the back. Once I'd wound the spring preload back from 50,000 lbs they started working
However the finish is poor and considering they've hardly done any miles they look atrocious.

Still, ya gets what ya pays for...

RT put Redlines all round on mine (billet aluminium finish) and they are really nice - progressive and easy to adjust. Look good too!

just having my brakes tweeked so could/should replace the shocks while it is in bits!

Worth mentioning as well that should you encounter any problems with AVO's they'll rebuild them for about 15 quid and they're based in Northampton

I'd like to know why I'm being quoted £220 odd for 2 shocks! Not a spring/shock set. Similarly, I have come across Spax at £240 a pair when I have an internet price of £68 each! I have also been quoted Gaz at about £220 the pair when I can get them elsewhere at £62 each. Wow!

The other thing is, someone is suggesting ride height adjustables for the rear. Is this right? From specifications I have analysed, rear shocks are NOT ride height adjustable.

The rears are 'coil over' the spring sits on a plate which is part of the shock. Many have the plate on a thread making them height adjustable - worthwile at the right price.

The GAZ shocks on the website in my earlier post were £44.00 each plus postage and vat!

That'll be like those on my Esprit then: shame the threads are so corroded that the platform won't move (and yes, I have removed the grub screws).

The Avo's I have on the rear are ajustable ride height. Bought from RT a few years ago.

How do you get the file in between the platform and the shocker though!!!

I know what you mean - I bought some with those coil over platforms, shocker with a steel body, aly platform, yes I thought, 2 years and that'll be welded together solid!

Yes yes yes! I know they are coil over - all round. But shocks are normally bought on their own without the springs. Whilst I only need the two, I am now thinking of the possibility of an all round change including springs - but why are the shocks being quoted at £220 odd for two when I can find an internet quote for £62 each?

I think the world's gone mad.

The £44 shocks quoted above are the ones I mention now shown at £62 on their website.

And where is AVO's head office? Just out of interest.
