I have just fitted a replacement Speedycables cable after damaging my original 8 months ago. The reading is a bit "fluttery"and the mph/1000 rpm in top has gone up from the (correct?) 21mph/1000 to 25/6per 1000. OK, this is the cheapest performance enhancer in the world, but it ain't right! Any ideas out there or do I hope it will get better (optimist) or disconnect at the instrument end (boo hoo!)re-route and get the carpets all bloodstained again!

I hate to have to say it but the needle fluttering could be that the cable is kinked and therefore not running smoothly. Talk to the blokes at Speedycables. If they are as knowledgeable as they are speedy then they'll point you in the right direction.

If you have a 4 speed gearbox it should be 22.2 mph/1000 rpm. Five speed is 24.5 mph / 1000 rpm.

Hope this helps

OK i've rerouted the cable and the flutter has all but gone. The speedo isn't reading fast it is SLOW. About 14 mph from around 30,ie 45 reads 30! Not healthy.. and pretty reluctant to go over an indicated 60...I'll follow another car to get a "Second Opinion" Perhaps it is sticky after 9 months inactivity, so perhaps the best thing to do is go out and give it some wellie!!!

I have my gearbox in pieces at present and have found the nylon speedometer drive pinion teeth to be in even worse state than mine, speedo was functioning erraticaly, but looking at the pinion I am suprised it worked at all.

Relatively easy to access (I think) from under the car so might be worth a look.

TVRCarparts have them on the site ( doesn't say whether 4 or 5 speed ) £13.10.

good Luck

PS how much did speedy cables charge?
