V8 core plug advice please?

Hi guys, am going to replace a core plug on my 390,and wondered if any of you nice chaps had any tips/advice on removal & refitting?

Hi Andy, just done mine on the new engine. getting ay them is a bit of a b***h in the car tho, especialy with the manifolds and starter in the way. If you can get all this stuff off it will be straight forward. You will need a 1ft long 1/2 dia bar chiseled on one end. A good 2lb hammer. Get the edge inside the core plug lip and give it a good smack. This will swivel the plug in its hole. ( tip- use block drain plugs to empty rest of coolant or will have a face full!). Try not to damage this hole as this will result in no seal. Clean hole of ALL remaining gunk. Get hold of some pipe sealing compound like "STAGG" - the red stuff and apply liberally to hole and core plug. With one hand place plug square into start of hole, one hand on the bar ( flat end ) the other hand on the hammer and give it a good whack. Make sure the plug is in square and slightly below flush with block ( 0.5 to 1mm is fine - NO MORE ).
With some of the compound on your finger rub around the hole and the plug to make sure of seal and to stop corrosion.
Thats one done, noe onto the next 5!..........cheers UG

Like he said knock it inwards so it looks like a throttle blade fully open. Then it's easy to pull out. Don't knock it all the way into the engine. I don't think there's a seat behind them so attack the side.
