leather dyeing stuff, any ideas folks

Seeing as I have gone a bit mad and stripped the interior of the wedge there are a few things I have still to do.

The interior trim has cleaned up well, along with re-sticking trim that has come adrift. contact adhesive is good stuff...

Anyway, with the seats removed, I have cleaned them to a point where they look good, but would look even better being re-dyed in their original colour. Has anyone done this? and if so, what sort of a job is it, and wheres the best place to get some...

Bear it in mind I only intended this to be a clean up job, and so far I've stripped it virtually down to each nut and bolt, and am about to do a bare fibreglass tub respray next week There is definately something wrong with me.

I would use leather dye.

I think perhaps the tanners were mixed in with other Livery Companies. I could have sworn there used to be a Worshipful Company of Tanners. Try these:-

Why not contact a local college to see if one of their craft or fashion departments will dye the leather for you as one of their projuects. Even stitch it for you. Get some rather unique upholstery, give young/older people an opportunity to practise their new found skills.

Hi,

I used leather polish / dye from Woolies. It simply renovates the old tired leather and is well easy to do. Simply send a small piece of your leather and they will colour match it(as best as they can), and send back enough dye to do 1 seat or all the interior. Pretty good result.

You might find that just cleaning the seats and resealing them does the job, though.

I also found that the blue piping n mine could be rejuvenated with ladies blue shoe colouring, available from your local cobbler's.

There, I managed to say cobblers and it wasn't rude for once....

I have just purchased some chim seats for my wedge. Unfortunately, they are the wrong colour (Greay and I want them black). I will give this stuff a go:

Get some white foam magic eraser to clean

I have done it with www.leatherique.com - not the cheapest but easily the best

I dread to think what they look like then I've cured the drivers lean to the right, the base had snapped, it needed realigning and welding....then reassembling and re covering.

I'd reccomend the Gliptone stuff, you need to send them a sample of the exact shade you want ( I used some excess material from underneath the seat) and tehy mix the dye up to match, works a treat although you do have to keep reapplying over the years.

Been there, done that: probably wasn't helped by the previous owner being a self-confessed fat b@stard. So fat, in fact, that he fitted a steering wheel with a flat spot on the bottom.
