225 50 15 - Tyre Availability Problems
Discussion
Last year - I was really pleased that Toyo wanted to support TVR (averts in TVR CC etc) and supply tyres for all TVR's.
I have found that the excellent TOYO TR1S (W rated at 167mph) has
now been removed from the range and replaced with the TR1S (vr rated at 149mph).
Also not much else out there that is suitable -
Kumho (luke warm),
Falken 512 - vr rated,
Yokohama A022 vr rated,
and a Micheline Exalto (w rated) and Dunlop SP9000 (Z rated) but being mainstream tyre's are more than likely built for a much heavier car like a BMW - which will mean it will last forever and offer hardly any grip
So - a shred of good news is that Toyo is now producing it's 888 tyre in 225 50 15 (w rated) - it's a road legal track tyre : grip will be the ultimate, with wear rates bing higher than normal.
What a dilema - so guess what I bought

Is this a "dry" tyre or is it claimed to work in the wet as well?

From what I have seen - it's a track tyre but has reasonable wet grip.. have ti wait and see but I don't push much on the road in the wet anyway

Mine were £107 each (unfitted) :

This tyre is not available : 225/50R15 TOYO PXT1-S 91W
- real shame a nice road tyre !
Why is it that when ever a really good road tyre comes out that they remove it.
Case in point :
Bridgestone S02 !
Toyo TR1S !

I've been running Hankook Ventus on mine for the last year and have been really pleased with them. They do your size

Ventus K102
V/W speed grade ultra-high performance tire. "Aggressive" "V" "shaped lateral groove enhances steering stability as well as lateral drainage, and minimizes rolling resistance." Hankook's new silica compound and TCT (Trapezoid Contour Theory) profile technology applied to enhance lateral stiff-ness for better handling on wet and dry road.

Look good, but i couldn't see a W rated 15" though. Wonder if i could get discount for working with Koreans.
