change colour or not

i am having the wedge resprayed and thinking of changing the colour, so do i keep it close to the original storm grey, or do i change it to something totally different and if so what. i like dark colours and have seen a nice black with dark blue metallic chips, but also have to think how easy it will be to sell when the time comes.

If your sticking to TVR colours I think a big wedge would look very good in reflex charcoal - but probably very costly.

Blain - what is the reg of your car : there can't be too many Storm grey 400se's out there.. I used to own one

I have some good news for you - reflex charcoal is available at a cheaper cost than is realised (not from TVR).

My local car paint supplier - Brown Brothers do it for £264 / litre, OK it's still not cheap but it's do able.

And reflex charcoal is just superb - and would match your interior..

rev, how long ago did you have the 400 as the car has had a few plates on it so will check through the paper work, currently h16 ank

The best thing for classic cars is originality. Generally speaking, changing col;our will devalue a car. Yes I know, my car is not in its original colour, but that original colour is not fully established anyway. And in any case, yellow is how it is known. Not as a red car that is now blue.

I have thought, if I keep the car for much longer, that I might return it to original colour and trim spec..

For some reason the UK varies a little with Europe where originality is of key importance, and changes seem to be acceptable in some or even many cases - especially modern modifications to Jaguars!

The car is of course your car. And it is your perogative if you wish to paint it pink, or blue, or even call it Sue!

Blain - my first 400se was a G plate but when lookin for it I test droke 'Hank' and fell in love with 400se's.. it was for sale at 14.5 and I bought privately at a bit less - usual story..

Keep it storm grey, I had an S3C in storm grey. It's a nice colour.
The paint costs seem a bit high though, I bought a litre of storm grey, or VW LY7U I think it is, plus hardener, lacquer, thinners etc from a trade paint supplier for about £100 when Dave and I sprayed the front end of the S.... It's getting cheaper

I've just bought a litre of ferrari rosso corsa using the proper ferrari paint codes from the same supplier for £60. If you do want to respray it, let me know the paint codes just in case they are a little different, and I can get a quote for the paint for you if you like, might save you a few pennies.....

The manual of my 400se says charcoal grey. I thought is was gun metal grey as my 350i had the same colour and i was told it was gun metal.

the paint that i originaly wanted was reflex charcoal, that is what i was quoted for. will let you know if i get stuck.

Colour suggestion - ocean blue , or metallic blue , easier for others to see you than grey , less chance of accidents , or red ?

I've started spraying my my car changing its colour from Navy to Pepper White. I think Wedges look better in light colours plus its a job I can do myself. I think the devaluation comment doesn't apply IMO becuase much of the value associated with our cars has been lost over the years already. The values that now apply are linked purely to condition and not resale value going on to a forecourt.

IMO reflex paint wouldn't look nice on a Wedge because of the straight lines associated with its shape as opposed to a Tuscan or Griff where their curves show off the varied tones...

Just a thought....

What does it cost , ball park figure , as a matter of interest , then it maybe worth me buying the white seac - don't like white - and getting it resprayed blue .

i have been quoted around 800gbp, but we i am decorating his house as payment. get the seac and worry what colour it is later, plus you can't see the outside when you are driving

I almost bought a storm grey 400SE from Henley Heritage years ago.. was a minter - originally wasn't sure about the colour but having seen it more and more the colour really grew on me - IMHO it is one of the best colours for a wedge.. agree though if I was to change the colour of a wedge it would have to be reflex charcoal or how about liquid chrome (McLaren F1 colour)..
