For the first time in it's history my wedge failed it's MOT today.
Couple of piddly little jobs like a missing rack gaitor end clip (I've already fixed them)
but also "emissions - unburnt hydrocarbons at idle too high"
Its a 400se hotwire - how easy is it to tweak?

1. Change yer oil.

2. Up the idle speed a little

3. Introduce an air leak - I use an extra bypass pipe clamped into the air hose from the meter to plenum sometimes.

The airflow meter has an allen key screw adjustment. Screw in ( i think ) to lean off, remember original setting to return to how it was, if its not better than it was!

I bought a gunsons CO meter from halfords a couple of years back. Great bit of kit. I check/set my CO every year and ist only 0.2 out from the MOT tester every time. You need to set it to less than 3.5 for cars upto 92.

If you have a hotwire then I would suggest you visit the RPI site as they tell you how to set the car up.

The diagnostic sheets for the hot wire system are here www.rangie.com/articles_topic.php?id=167&cat=7&subCat=51

and the RPi site to set up the AFM and TPS is here www.rpiv8.com/carbs-2.htm#setting-up

Essentially what is hapening is the car is runing rich, one cheat is to disconnect the coolant temp sensor near the front of the inlet manifold on the passenger side, and put a paperclip across the two pins of the plug to fool the ECU into thinking the engine is running very warm

As told to me by a well know TVR indie ;-)
The other option is to remove the 8mm breather pipe going into the plenum...

or you decide!!!
