ive got a small oil leak fom the sump gasket at the front
by the timeing cover
can you drop the sump of without lifting the engine if so i might change it if you have to lift the engine ill leave it as its only slight

IIRC yes it's possible to drop the sump.

Did mine with the car on an axle stand front end. Couple of bits of wood strapped at a suitable hight to help offering it back up. Someone advised a good sealant as well so used hylomar. Seemed to do the job.

I did try tightening them up first but the gasket was slipping out.

You might just find the bolts are a little loose and need nipping up.

sorted i removed the bolts and found the new bolts that were fitted when the engine was rebuilt the thread didnot go all the way to the head of the bolt aprox 2mm from the head
i put a flat washer on the bolt tighten up the bolt
now sorted no more oil leak

Ah, monkey trouble

I suspect a lot of the leaking oil on my Esprit was due to a similar monkey having stripped the threads in the block.... I mean for Christ's sake how much torque do you need on a sump bolt? OK, so the Esprit sump is kind of a stressed element, but there is a torque figure in the book of words... or you could use 'mechanic's feel', which is nothing to do with that young secretary on a YT scheme...

Even in the manufacturing industry people think you've got obsessive compulsive disorder if you mention using a torque figure or liquid thread lock!
