4 Wheel Alignment ?
Discussion
Can anyone recommend somewhere near King's Lynn?
Have just finished poly bushing, would like to get it all set up correctly and finally get rid of its veering to the ditches.
On another vein have replced the steering knuckles and rebushed the bulkead yet I still get bags of 'shake' through the steering, any ideas?

Front wheel bearing play can cause this as well (had this myself). Don't overtighten them, as a heated up front axle can take all play out and cause 'welding' of bearing to it with a locked up wheel as a result....
'Square' tires can cause some as well (flat spots due to locking up, or old tires and the car stationary for a long time).

It tends to be over pot holes or uneven "B" roads, i'm wondering if the body is flexing, causing the column to move where it comes through the bulkhead. I suppose the probem is with all new suspension and polys, it could be quite a harsh ride anyway, but I do find it very disconcerting. If anybody technical fancies a meet up in the King's Lynn area I would be happy to buy them a pint for a second opinion!

Bring you car to BBWF - we are trying to get a 4 wheel alignment guy with a mobile rig along..

I am arranging a guy that does this laser geometry stuff to take his mobile rig to the BBWF, I'm sure he will be looking for a car or two to set up. Have just finished poly bushing, would like to get it all set up correctly and finally get rid of its veering to the ditches.

Poly bush kit bought from RT Racing, A bit pricey @ £370+ Vat, and that excluded drop link bushes as I have the Steve Heath ARB's.
And it still drives like a piece of shi@8£$&%!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never mind goes in tommorrow for 4 wheel laser alignment and the dreaded MOT. If that does not improve it, I'll .......... just sit in it and rev the engine and never drive it anywhere!
Guess its got to the stage where i'm gunna have to save up and let the experts fleece me !

Have poly bushes, and the judder didn't disappear. BUT: new ball joints and adjusting wheel bearing play did it....
If your brake discs are worn (like warped), it will judder as hell as well and no cure besides to skim or replace the discs. So have you been out on track lately? And did you 'finish' your brakes? Like can you remember that judder became worse, and the brakes only started to brake after pumping the brake pedal? Still Granada (=not good stuff) equipment on? Conclusion: time to replace discs, and preferably to upgrade (myself 300mm grooved (don't drill!) 4-pot with mintex or green stuff fast road, and never looking back).

4 Wheel alignment went well, but took the techie 3 hours to get the digital read outs to zero! He politely pointed out that the TVR was not a terribley true chassis.
Drives much better, but still bags of shake, especially on uneven roads, they are ex TVR dealers, and he said that was quite normal. I'm less convinced, a I see there is a similar thread going on at the momement.
Not such good news was the MOT surprise surprise failed on handbrake efficiency and..... a distint lack of metal holding the body to the chassis. Was going to post some pics but I see fotango has ceased.
bugger bugger bugger, going to be off the road for a while.

Yeah, you don't look to happy in the profile pic either!
Keep the pecker up fella it will all be worth it in the end.
Like I said before, owning a Big Bad Wedge is like going out with a dirty woman that likes to argue all the time! when she's on song its great but when she's not.......

Drives like a piece of $#!+? They all do that sir... to some extent.
If it's REALLY that bad that it's trying to kill you even after all the work you've done, either (a) there's something seriously wrong with it or (b) sounds like you're confusing a 1970s fag-packet chassis design with probably 20 years of assorted corrosion, with 21st century computer-aided monococque chassis design.
If you added up all the negative points about a wedge, you'd never buy one. I'd say they are probably THE car that takes the most tolerance on behalf of the driver... you certainly require a certain personality to live with one for any length of time.

I always thought mine was atrocious, but apparently it's normal. A certain specialist told me it was because body is fairly flimsy and the only way to cure it was to fit a full roll cage and brace the top of the steering column to that.
Oh the joy of plastic cars.
Poly bushes will only make it worse IMHO.
Mark.
Glad to hear it's not just my car with dreadful scuttle-shake! Was thinking of trying to find some way of bracing the steering column as it waggles around all over the place, but have been told similar about building in a roll-cage. Not sure I want to go down that route. My S3 and Griff were never this bad!!

Yeah, the steering column mounting is a bit pants. The main brace extends away from the firewall/ scuttle/ pedal box so there's potential for a lot of leverage at the wheel.
On my Tasmin I made a spreader plate that sat outside the pedal box (in the engine bay) which improved matters a bit (the GRP couldn't flex quite so much).
I think something similar to the Esprit's cross-brace between the A pillars would be a better bet; the Lotus' column is bolted to that and is as stiff as you'd expect.
