Bonnet Catch

At the weekend I went to open the bonnet and it wouldn’t as the cable had managed to loosen itself from the catch. I thought jack it up fiddle about with a stick and get it opened in half an hour?. No as it’s a series 1 there’s a lot more bodywork in the way so the whole exhaust had to come off. Only took 6 hours including fixing all the broken things discovered in the process.

So now it’s fixed there is an emergency pull wire from the catch going through the bulkhead into the passenger side.

If you ever get stuck like that I reccommend an air scoop/vent in the bonnet just next to the catch! The type you see glued on to Saxos!! Anything but what I went through

I had the exact same thing happen to me on the Series 1 280.

No amount of fiddling with wires would shift it.

However, there is a grill in the bonnet right over the bonnet locking mech, which just happens to be covered in alloy mesh available from my local DIY store.

Cut out the grill, open bonnet, and replace with matching piece of metal, suitably painted black.

This can't be done on all of course, due to the many variations in bonnet design.

That's interesting, on my series one, both vents at the back of the bonnet had ducting beneath them to feed the "heater"/blower. Don't you just love TVR's!!!

Yes, that bonnet! The grill at the windscreen end on mine, splits two ways, left and right, to two ducts that take the air down to where the twin blowers pass through the bulkhead...at least they did until I played about with it all!!! As such you cannot get to the catch mechanism through that grill.

Oh, and it's still my car ;p

Hmm - there were no ducts on mine.
Probably why there was no airflow either

At the moment I'd be happy to get the blinkin CD to work on this one, without setting fire to it.

What do I do with all these wires ?

No, I mean all those hundreds of pretty coloured ones coming out of the 400's dash.

So far I've tried 3 different players, none of which have shown any sign of life (ok, one was half dead already).

There's an amp and two 10" Clarions behind the seats, waiting to annoy the neighbours.

I'm going to have to take it to the professionals, before I break something.

Could have looked at that CD player for you as been in Teeside the last day or so, even had a charged multimeter Now home after leaving at 3.30 so a nice 4 hour drive

Not to worry mate.
I've just got back after what was SUPPOSED to be a quick 30 minute hoon.

Ahh mine was a bit different with a 250 mile trip home in the Mundeo, havn't seen a wedge all week, not even mine

Always tomorrow as working from home :wink: So a quick blat might be in order
