New Wedge Owner

Hi people,

Ive recently bought a wedge after a chance buy and viewing on ebay - wasnt intended but wanted something to progress from after fully restoring a Spitfire 1500, got bored and wanted a new weekend toy.

Dont really know a great deal about them, but am mechanically minded and not scared off too much work.

Thats my new toy - ive yet to collect it.

What do you guys think? does it sound ok, are those garages recognised specialists with good reputations?

Appologies for my lack of knowledge in these beasts, i have a lot of stuff to research!

After ive been to le mans in it that is anyway!

The Le Mans trip will give it a good shake down, then you'll be adding to the things to do list, but never quite getting round to doing it

If I'm not mistaken the wedge you have bought used to belong to 'gavinr'. His profile is on pistonheads owners.

I'm sure you will enjoy it. The cost of the rollover bar, hispec brakes, ACT exhaust, harness etc would probably come to not far off 50% of the price you paid if you had decided to buy them and get them fitted!

Thanks for the replies guys - all very positive stuff, feel happier. To be honest it was my dad who saw this car on ebay and it was an impulse buy, He bid and really didnt expect to get it.

Then you start asking yourself all sorts of questions, like what the hell have i done and how am i gonna tell the wife!! <gulp>

Ill send an e-mail over to gavinr, if he has owned this car then i will be very happy, from reading his posts he is a pure TVR man who knows his stuff!

Ill keep you updated when we get her and get some pics.

Grahamw48, where about in Cleveland are you? My office is based in Stockton on Tees and i live in Newton Aycliffe, small world! Is there a TVR scene here in the Northeast?

Hello and welcome
It looks a good one, and an unusual colour too. I bought my 390 from a smashing chap in Newcastle, who is buying a new T350. As far as I'm aware there are quite a few tvr's up there.

Don't worry, you wouldn't be normal if you didn't worry about buying a tvr, but that's why you bought one, if you were normal you would have bought an mgf or something equally as vomit inducing.

This forum is the best around for problem diagnosis and general rallying around for one of our own, with this lot behind you you can't go wrong...

It is a small world.
I only moved from Stillington less than a year ago, and often shopped at the Newton Aycliffe Tesco. Also worked round there a lot. I'm in Ingleby Barwick now, and work from home.

YES there is a lively TVR scene in this area (look at PH Northeast section), and we are particularly fortunate in having our own local Wedge guru in 'wedg1e', from Norton.
Usually the Northeast PHers meet at 'Shaftos', so aren't you the lucky one - just up the road.

Also well-known local Wedgers are 'Selmer', 'Snow Mole', and 'broadside'. There are more, but I can't remember how to spell their nics to do a search.

I'm sure you'll find many friendly and helpful people amongst the Wedge fraternity.
I for one will be only too happy to offer whatever advice and practical help I can.

In the mid 1990s I lived and worked in Darlington for a few years, but I didn't have a wedge then.
I moved to the South East and even now I imagine that TVR driving around Teesdale would be very enjoyable (assuming it's not caravan season!)

You're right, we are blessed with some wonderful driving roads up here.

The North York Moors, the Cleveland Hills, and the Dales too.

All within 20 miles of my house.
