I have SO-2 on the front and Yokohama A-022 on the rear, A-022 bought last minute to pass MOT and only ones available at the time. Does anyone know the A-022 as the yokohama web-site does not seem to list them? Also is it wise to mix and match like this? Any tips on the best gripping wet and dry etc?

Generally it's not a good idea to mix and match tyre's as different makes have differnt characteristics and you may notice a tendency to understeer / oversteer more than before, depending on which axle you've fitted them. I've found Bridgestone to be excellent for wet weather grip and pretty good in the dry, a friend of mine has just completed a round of tyre swops with Michelin Pilots, Pirelli P-zero's and Bridgestone s-02's. His choice was teh P-zero's for grip in both conditions and the s-02 as the next choice fro price and performance, the michelins were also good but slightly more expensuive than the P-zero's and not as grippy. I had a pair of SO2's fitted to the rear, while the old RE71's stayed on the front. It understeered a lot, but they got me to Le Mans & back. As soon as I put SO2's on the front, it made it much easier to handle.

SO2 on the front here as well I had just bought it and needed an MOT. 225 not on every shop front so went with what I got. Then a bit of a shock the other day hence this question on tyres. Back end decided to go for a walk at 40 in the wet and I was not invited! Not doing anything silly, no welly to the floor etc, just trying to avoid potholes. The Bridgstones on my old 350 never did that hence a bit of doubt on these new Yokowhatevers Edited by jmorgan on Saturday 15th September 10:59

Sod it! Back end went for a walk again in the wet whilst driving normally. Goodbye Yokohama hello 2 new SO3. Local tyre dealer contacted Bridgestone and said I was OK to put SO3 on the rear while SO2 on the front (they suggested it) at £97+vat and fitting Edited by jmorgan on Wednesday 26th September 19:29

I transferred mine to SO2's when the RE71's wore out. Inportant safety point- don't try fitting 225's to a standard 350 - they'll fit the rims but they will foul the rear suspension tie links and these need to be modified if you're going for bigger tyres.

Tried all sorts on my 400, including Re71s,(good, but a bit slidey) Toyo Proxes T1s (fab grip, but they last about 10 minutes) Fulda carat Extremo (very good grip once scrubbed in, long lasting, quiet, and gave nice handling balance) and now just fitted (so too early to say) Goodyear Eagle F1s (cos my tyre man did em for 84 squid each all in otherwise I would have had some more Fuldas)
I only ever do 4 tyres at the same time so I have a partly worn pair of Fulda Extremos off the front if anybody wants to try them.

Cheers

Hi Seamus

cannot get my server to e mail you direct for some reason. Keeps telling me I need updating or something like that. ( updating? me? I'd rather sell my flares and floral tank top first)

Mail me at andy@spectralft.com with your e mail address and we can sort out something.
Cheers
Andy

I noticed that the road going Tuscan racer in this months CCC is fitted with Fuldas. Might price them up for my S3 at next tyre change.

you won't regret it Bob, but be sure to scrub them in gently for a few hundred miles before you play - this was the advice my tyre man gave me, he reckons the Fuldas need this treatment if they are to give their best. Dunno if thats bollocks but I do know I was well impressed with them.

Be careful to shop around though as I found last month that Goodyear F1s were actually cheaper than the Fuldas because of some deal that was going on at the time with the importer- hence my switch to Goodyear. I had been quoted £165 for the Goodyears but got them for £84. The Fuldas were £90. thats for 225/50/15 z rated or something like that!
Cheers
