wedge aerials

how did the wedge aerials vary throughout their production? most I've seen seem to have an automatic chrome one. Mine has one like these SE ACs:

Black chrome on mine (350i series 2). Of course there's no need for an external aerial on a GRP body at all!

350 had an "inboard" aerial in the boot. SEAC has short black floppy one.
Some of the SEAC's have a hole drilled in the spoiler and an electric aerial that pops up throughit. Not good if you have the boot open and switch the radio on though

Originally my SEAC (1986) had no aerial at all

My 1982 drophead had an automatic aerial connected to a JVC radio cassette unit. I believe this was the orginal; fitting. Sadly the aerial died on me (broken platic "cable"and I had to replace it with a cheapo manual unit. The original was a Ford one- and it must have worked ok for 23 years.I would like to source another one, but I haven't looked very hard!Beaulieu Autojumble will be the best bet.

My leccy aerial motor makes a nice buzzing noise, to presumably lift the non-existent (broken off) aerial,and then after a little 'beep' in protest, off goes the radio.

Far too complicated for me. Whatever happened to bent coathangers ?

What do you want an aerial for??? I consider the stereo as a means of filling the hole in the centre console.... I thought it was just structural!

If you need to replace one, then one off a Honda Accord circa 1995 fits really well. The slope on the wing is the same and under the wing it fits np. Better than fitting some of the cheapo stuff off the shelf.

disconnect the blue wire from the ariel/radio
