Clutch problem

Like any of us need an annoying problem just before BBWF !

The clutch pedal just started to feel strange yesterday - with the
engine running at the end of it's travel it feels strange.

Hard to describe it but : notchy, not linear

But with the engine not running it feels fine.. weird.

I need to get it up in the air and see what is happening but incase I need some urgent spares - does anyone know if the clutch master and slave is Rover SD1 (they look similar) :

Make sure you got fluid in the top us res. Might be worth bleeding it as well Rev.

Fluid - yes it's OK (top) and yes I've going to bleed and check the operation, pop rubbers and check for probs, try to inspect inside flywheel if poss..

Just wondered if others has similar symptoms and what the problem was..

So you may have to come in the 350t and park in the 'other' park !

On mine standard SD1 stuff, but 350i. Don't know about SE or SEAC. There is a drawing on the rimmer's webpage. You could print it and check if it is the same. After checking everything/overhauling it and the hydraulic system is ok, and still not working properly, you can have a peak within the bellhousing by taking the bottom dust plate off. Hopefully not a problem like mine: pivot piercing the clutchlever.... Probably won't be before August before I can repair it due to time (who has some spare...).

I checked out the master and slave - all OK..

Also bleed the clutch.. with dot 5.1

Took a peak at the arm - what I could see looked ok..

Problem seems to have disapeared - so happy times

Whilst under there - did spot that the anti rollbar mounting bracket on one side had snapped and disappeared - could explain the poor roll cornering.

Wounder if it got thru the MOT like that ?

Just checked TVRParts web site and saw the anti rollbar mounting bracket is about £8 - so nice xheap fix - I'll order one on Monday
- so should be able to fit it before BBWF.

Also noticed the front body mount was loose on one side - so tightened that up.

All easy fixes ..

Talking of great spot's - I was helping Simon (Beastie) with an oil change on his 400 SE on Thursday evening an spotted his bonnet bolts were really loose .. wonder whose wedge it would have landed on during the BBWF convoy ?

10 seconds saw those tightened up..

Glad you fixed it Rev, had a similar thing with my clutch a few months back, turned out to be very old fluid, looked more like old engine oil. flushed it through, 15 mins, perfect. I did the brakes at the same time.

Five years ago I bought some from a Ford dealership for about £3. Not off the shelf but came in next day. Chances are they are no longer available but might be worth a try.
In the attempt cheapen production Ford made the bracket fixed by only one bolt which weakens it. The Bible has a few words on this and to add to that I have thought that the next time mine fail I'll have new ones machined from solid using two fixings. Anyone fancy starting production or can you buy this sort of thing off the shelf somewhere?

Not sure I'm that worried between £3 and £7.50 .. it's not like anyone is really making a fortune here...

I'm just mega happy if someone has the past and I dont have to make it myself on an anvil and a welder..
