Power steering n' MOT??

I have got the car ready for MOT now. But there is a squeal coming from the power steering pump ( I have a replacement just not got round to fitting it yet), it is the same noise you get when the fluid is low.

Does anyone know if it is checked in the MOT?
Also drivers side mirror has 2 cracks in it???

Gonna put her in tomorrow and fingers crossed!!

It should be checked but every pas car I've had moted has said n/a on the ticket, so I guess it's a case of if they can be bothered to check it as it's not exactly stealth technology! Is it just the belt squealing if so a squirt of WD40 might shut it up just long enough to get it through

Don't know but a halfords stick on replacement makes the problem go away. Come to think of it I don't think you need door/wing mirrors at all so you could be alright. I'm sure a more qualified person will answer soon enough.

You are right, if I needed wing mirrors then I am not going fast enough

you need 2 mirrors for the mot

Is that 2 mirrors in total??? including the rear view. Make sense as my X/19 only has one wing mirror from the factory.

Any ideas on the power steering??

2 in total, in any combination. have you checked the flud in the pump, or sprayed belt/pulley/bearing with wd 40. but as long as it is working with no leaks don't think it will fail

Thanks Blaine, Fluid is good. there is so much oil and muck under there I have no idea if it is leaking, but i haven't noticed anything excessive.

The nearside mirror on my Rover was cracked when it went through the MOT last March.

The tester said that one didn't matter, but the driver's (overtaking) side did.

A cheap stick-on one from Halfrauds might be a sensible precaution.
