Thanks for reminding me. Not sure of the best way to go now, as I can see myself getting lost very easily going the M11 A14 route. Any ideas anyone? Mark
M11 then A14 all the way to the M6 (don't forget to turn left on the A14 just after Huntingdon!)

I really do not understand all this crap about M11 then A14 for Chrissake!
Gunmetal - unless you are going towards London to meet up to take part in one of the many convoys to Ettington, AVOID any route to the M11 - it is a complete waste of time - I promise you.
From Harwich take A120 to COLCHESTER, turn right (to go North)to IPSWICH onto the A12, at IPSWICH turn left (to go West)onto A14 to THE MIDLANDS(formerly A45) which takes you almost all the way there (you will use a stretch of the M6 near COVENTRY; the A14 merges with it) - then turn left (to go South) at COVENTRY on A46 - this will take you round WARWICK until the road intersects with the M40 at which point you take the A429 almost due South singposted to MORETON-IN-THE-MARSH (ETTINGTON will most likely be signposted at this point) after just a few miles you will arrive at ETTINGTON. This is motorway type roads nearly all the way.
If you are going to join up with a convoy somewhere around the London area, ignore all I have said.
BUT AT ALL COSTS do NOT take the A120 to STANSTED to pick up the M11. It will take you miles out of your way, and this road will drive you mad.
I don't know how how you drive, and I don't wish to encourage you to exceed the speed limit, but HARWICH to COVENTRY should be possible in 1 hour and then another half hour to 50 minutes from there. If you drive at a reasonable rate you should do it in 2 and a half hours or so.
There are roadworks all over the place in this country! You just need to check with the websites suggested. Or merely take it as it comes!

Yeah from Harwich that cuts out the A120/M11 dogleg. You still have a bottleneck where the A14 meets the north end of the M11 near Cambridge and turns north, it goes down to 1 lane. Quite often there is a tailback there on Friday evenings, stay in the right hand lane until the last 300 metres, pick a space in front opening up on the left (usually in front of a lorry), gun it in 3rd and slip into the queue. Saturday shouldn't be a problem.
