Bodywork fasteners

Hi all,

I need to buy some of the captive studs that hold the sill covers/front foglights/endless other bits of bodywork on. They are a piece of M8 threaded rod about 2 inches long with a metal plate full of little holes on one end. You poprivet the plate to the fibreglass, and can then bolt stuff onto the threaded rod.

Know the things I mean??

I have found the people that make them, but they only want to sell me £50worth or more. Would anyone be interested in going in halves with me?? I find the old ones always shear off when removing bits of bodywork, so I reckon a supply would be damn useful. Mild steel ones are about 60p each, and stainless (we like that: no rusting!) are about £1 a throw.

Anyone interested??

I know what you mean, but I usually bodge up something similar for very little money. E.g. when refitting the 350i spoiler I pop-rivet in some aly plate, then drill through that and put in a 6mm bolt with a washer to spread the load.

I think I remeber merlin motorsport selling the captive-nut-on-a-metal-doyle things for about a half a leg, or was it an arm, I don;t recall - tis late. but you can get them if you really really want to. Or was it Car Builder Solutions, or maybe Stafford Vehicle components. They're a bit weedy if you ask me I put an alloy plate under where the wierd crochet looking things used to go, but I used an M8 bolt, none of this M6 nonsense!

Yeah, I've made my own a few times. Use stainless bolts though, saves grief next time

Try these guys if your looking for stainless steel bonding fasteners, they make all sorts of fixings for the glassfibre industry and supply TVR themselves so should have something suitable?

Not to worry, Im sure there are plenty more rusted ones in the car: its been in a field in Lincolnshire for 5 years, and you could've caught fish in the footwells. She's receiving TLC now though!

P.S. Apparently they hold the dash in aswell??
