I had a race with a metro turbo once, in my 280i. The metro was still pulling away from me at over 120 - I was a bit shocked, so i did some research - they hold some pretty respectable lap times at Mallory park, faster than the tasmin race boys, IIRC.

IIRC the "real" 6R4 didn't have a Rover V8, it was fitted with a four-cam, 24-valve, normally aspirated 3-litre V6, hence the 6(cylinders)R(rear engine)4(whel drive) monicker.

I remember reading that the engine was developed fom the V8 - they started by chopping two cylinders off. Might not be true though as I probably saw it on a web site.

Early development was split between the RV8 and the Honda V6.

Did they really build a 12v version? I've looked at quite a few and they have all been 24v and look very differnt to that one in the engine bay. There are quite a few non original copies built for rallying using metro shells with a spaceframe welded in underneath and using v6 and v8 motors...

The 6R4 is another motor i've got close to buying a few times... a usable one should be 25-35k for a fresh rebuild full spec your easy looking at 100k

It may well be perfectly legit, but there's something that doesn't "feel" quite right about it ...

Once had a passenger ride in a 6R4 at Silverstone.

It was a 2.8 V6, with twin superchargers (Fleming thermodynamics if I remember correctly). It was running on slicks. I've never been in a car that cornered so fast, the G forces were amazing.

I think you're right about them all being 24v though, this one doesn't seem proper.

This looks like a development mule with a cut down rover V8 that's dry sumped.I did'nt think any of these cars survived.

Its possible that it is a genuine car and if it is, it would be much rarer than the V64V engined originals.
All the V64V engined cars were 24 valve design hence the naming.

There was a nice well documented one that went on ebay not so long ago... much nicer than that went for mid 30's which was less than i thought it would
