Clutch Release Bearing

Guys, am I right in thinking that you can pull the engine just far enough forward to change the CRB without removing it completely?

Has anyone done this? I know it's going to be tight and a bit awkward.

Think so, but haven't done it myself.
Several owners can enlighten you on: taking the gearbox out by moving the engine forward. My assumption here: if you can get the gearbox out, it should be possible to replace the release bearing without taking the engine out.

Thats what I thought. Rest of the clutch is ok, just the bearing falling apart.

On mine the clutch lever within the bellhousing is 'to be replaced', the rest is fine. Haven't got around to actually do it, but tested it on a spare gearbox to replace just the lever without moving anything out or in the car. It requires though to make a hole in the bellhousing. Didn't have the time yet to try it. But even if it worked, to replace the bearing is no help to you. Is it so bad, as normally you still can get away with it for a longer period or time (or you used that period already)?

I seem to remeber you writing about cutting the hole in the bell housing to do this. The bearing is working OK, just making one hell of a racket when the clutch pedal isn't depressed, you can actually hear it over the engine

Would think you can just about do it, but you may need to also move the gear box back as you would have to get the crb over the end.

I know i fixed my release arm by moving the gearbox back enough to get my arm in there but it was very tight and awkward to get too.

Possible have to remove pulleys or water pump to get the fromt clearance, or drop the rad if easier ?

Might as well replace the whole clutch assembly so you don't have tyo do it all again in 6 months time
